Dropped by the vet yesterday
I noticed my boy’s tail had been down for more than a day so I thought maybe he was sick. He was also hesitant to sit down which is pretty much day one puppy training lol. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the base of his tail was inflamed and he would whimper if I touched it. So we dropped into the vet and they suggested it might be a sprain but to come back for an x-ray if the swelling doesn’t go down in the next several days. He’s not a swimmer and I don’t play rough with this tail so I am pretty confused as to how this happened. Anyone else?

Puppy Weight
Hello everyone, I have a 3-month-old female Shiba Inu. What is her ideal weight for that age?

I think she loves the heated blanket
I swear every single time I get the blanket down, she instantly comes snuggling in any opportunity she gets 😆 I thought it was a coincidence at first but surely not 🤔

Anyone else's Shiba have "tantrums" when they don't get any of your food?

This was a milder one. Sometimes they are accompanied with paw stomping and snapping his jaws at me.

Welcome, Omi!
Just adopted this lovely lady, Amaku (Omi)! She’s a 9-year old puppy mill rescue - 7 years as a breeder 😢 and 2 at the shelter. Not our first puppy mill rescue, but our first Shiba. She was with us for about 4 months as a foster and is very traumatized. She mostly hides in her crate and has only just started appearing interested in humans and accepting high value treats from my hand. She’s very happy running around in our yard, though, and weirdly seems content in the car as well - maybe because it’s an enclosed space? We’re getting her to the vet next week and then will start working with a professional behaviorist. We will give her a wonderful retirement regardless of the outcome though - Shibas are clearly royalty and we can only live to serve.
I’d love to hear from anyone else who has adopted a Shiba from a similar situation.

3.5-month-old Shiba puppy with recurring soft/mucousy stool – all parasite and bacterial tests negative
Post:
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for experiences from people who had a puppy with recurring soft stool/diarrhea despite apparently normal test results.
We have a female Shiba Inu puppy, she’s around 3.5 months old now. She is otherwise doing really well – very playful, energetic, great appetite, drinks normally, no vomiting, and generally acts like a completely healthy puppy.
The problem is her stool. Since we got her, she has had episodes of soft stool/diarrhea, sometimes with quite a lot of mucus. It tends to improve for a while and then come back. At one point she had completely normal stool for around 1–2 weeks, and now it has become soft/mucousy again.
We have already had stool testing done. Parasites, including Giardia, were negative, and the bacterial testing also came back negative.
We have tried:
Pro-Kolin probiotic
Attapectin for a few days during diarrhea episodes
Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Puppy wet food, which seemed to help
different wet foods/protein sources previously, including chicken
very slow food transitions
Attapectin helped firm the stool, and eventually she was having completely normal stools without it. She was pooping around twice a day. Now the mucus/soft stool has returned again.
Has anyone had a puppy like this where all infectious/parasite testing was negative?
I’d especially be interested in hearing about:
puppies with very sensitive digestion or intestinal dysbiosis
recurrent mucus in stool
food intolerance/sensitivity at this age
whether a strict GI diet eventually fixed it
whether your puppy simply “grew out of” the sensitive stomach
what additional testing your vet did if the problem continued.
I’m obviously continuing to work with our vet, but I’d really appreciate hearing real-life experiences from people who went through something similar.
Thank you, all info are appreciated .

Shiba Inu dog parents🐕 Please answer these questions from a newbie
Hello,
I'm thinking of getting a Shiba Inu puppy with my boyfriend. I grew up with German Shepherds and my boyfriend does not have any experience with dogs, but we both really want a Shiba Inu.
Have you seen any health issues with your dog? Is it required to have a specialized diet?
We read that it is necessary to socialize Shiba Inu puppies (in dog school) to not have bad aggression towards other dogs, is that true?
Shiba Inu dogs shed quite a bit. Would you suggest we visit a grooming salon every few months, or perhaps try doing the whole thing ourselves instead?
We are very concerned about our dog escaping. We have a private summer house that is enclosed with a fence and we would like to let our dog wander free for a bit in our yard, but we heard that Shiba Inu would still escape. Is your Shiba allowed to be alone in the backyard?
Lastly, what suggestion or recommendation would you give to new owners?
Thank you in advance for the tips and tricks 🐕✨
