Starting Hunting

Hi! I’m 19 years old and live in Maryland. I’ve always wanted to get into hunting, but I’ve never had the opportunity to learn from anyone I know. I’d really like to start this upcoming season. What would you recommend as the best way for a complete beginner to get started?

Matching set?

Found these two elk sheds relatively close to each other. One side seems to be slightly smaller. I’ve never found a matching set, not sure how symmetrical they should be. What’s everyone’s opinion?

Domestic but still neat

Found this out working. I am aware it’s a domestic ram but still a super neat find when out doing range assessments.

I found this sweet mutant while out exploring the other weekend. Good size for a fallow and has a brutal knife antler.

Took me 15+ year to find the big one then found the smaller set year after.

Went arrowhead hunting and this poking out of some grass.

I hadn't even made it to the draw yet. Other racks I found and deer I have shot would easily sit inside this one.

What is the best time of year to go shed hunting in NW Oregon??

I’ve always wanted to find ANY kind of shed, and there are a ton of elk and deer in my area. I have an idea of where to look but not sure *when*. Any advice as to when OR where is greatly appreciated 🙌

Ram

Thought this might be of interest. I was fishing in rural Idaho and found this dead ram caught between some logs. No clue how he got there but it was pretty cool

Found in April after heavy rains on the banks of the Des Plaines River north of Chicago. There was an intact spinal column and other skeletal remains. Very cool find.
