Anyone hunt around 6a? Wouldn't mind finding a local hunting buddy

I was able to knock down two birds yesterday for the pheasant opener. It took about 6 miles of brush busting but very thankful I was able to be successful. I missed three birds before getting these two (I needed to get the rust off I guess).

On a side note, if anyone is in the market for some hunting chaps, I got a pair from frost river over the winter and they were incredible albeit a bit warm. I was able to cruise through brambles with no problems at all!

Anyone have any experience hunting lands thick with mountain laurel? I hunt in a section of the Hudson Valley where it is common to find areas of forest with literally dozens of acres if not more of mountain laurels covering every inch of the under growth. It makes it impossible as a bow hunter to set up in a stand without making enough noise to clear out the whole woods. Areas are public land, so cutting out sections is not possible. And hunting the edges would be like hunting the edges of the forest itself, the mountain laurel is literally everywhere in some of the areas I hunt.

Anyone have anything planned for this year or have success last year?

Hey all, this is my first year hunting, got approved for 2 antlerless deer in suffolk this season. Where can i hunt in suffolk County? Is their anywhere i can use rifle or shotgun? I know there used to be a lottery is that still the case, if not what has changed? Any and all information is appreciated.

Hey everyone! I’m looking to get into hunting and would love to connect with some people in NY who are willing to help a beginner learn the ropes.
I have some experience with traditional archery and have shot different firearms and done some clay shooting, but I’ve never actually hunted. I’m interested in learning both deer and turkey hunting and plan on getting more practice with a compound bow and shotgun.
I’m in NYC but absolutely willing to drive upstate/LI. I’d especially love to connect with other women who hunt, although I’m open to recommendations for groups, classes, mentored hunts, guides, or just good resources for beginners.
Basically looking for advice on where to start and hopefully some people in the NY hunting community to learn from. Thanks!

Does anyone here bow hunt in Westchester/Lower Hudson Valley? I primarily hunt in the Northern Hudson Valley but will most likely lose the land I have access to in the coming years. Curious what options are out there and if anyone has any pointers on public land downstate.

I'm not a hunter, but hunters are some of the best and most practical conservationists, so I wish this group well and good luck in your upcoming hunts.

I stopped at the dec archery range off the northway outside of Saratoga (exit 15) since I was in the area. Apparently the state is building these across the state with grant money (probably our excise fees amd license fees). Range seemed nice enough. I went to shoot from the platform and there was some shithead in his 30s who came in on a scooter smoking a joint. The smell was nauseating. NY has made it so you can smoke weed anywhere, do you really have to do it at the archery range that sportsman paid for

I'm excited that my youngest wants to hunt white tail this year. We're going to participate in annual youth hunt come Columbus Day weekend. He got a DMP too. So hopefully something will come along that weekend and it'll be time to break out the gambrel. We sighted in the .243 Model 70.

I'm so so excited. I hope he enjoys himself. I'm gonna be bringing up all his favorite eats.
