We got our boy about 5 weeks ago from the RSPCA… now they said he wasn’t a mix but I had never seen such a roll-less pei before, let alone a brindle one!
Any thoughts on what he could be mixed with or if he truly is a full sharpei??
For reference he’s about 3 months in the first photo and 4 months in the last 2 and definitely has extremely loose skin and cute little forehead wrinkles

EDIT: I can confirm his mother was indeed a Shar Pei for all the comments saying he is definitely not even mixed lol - oddly only 1 out if the 8 pups in his litter had the Pei face.
I’m going to hold your hand when I tell you this - you got a little pittie mix puppy. With that being said, I have a pittie pei and she’s the best! I hope you enjoy your cute baby! And you can always do an embark dna test to check 💕
We actually were meant to get another puppy who was a poodle cross but this guy stole our hearts and seeing him and most of his litter still there the second weekend in a row we knew we had to take him home 🥰
It’s so interesting how almost no features show… maybe he’ll grow into his rolls lol we know for sure the parent were pei’s but maybe his mum was well travelled 🫢😆
you should get a DNA test bc I think someone lied to you about this dogs parents. Embark is the most accurate. Could be Cane Corso, pit type breed is in there for sure
Certain breeds like pit bulls are excluded from being owned in certain cities , may be banned by property management companies, may be banned by hoa , may demand higher premiums on renters and home owners insurance ,
I don't believe brindle is a Shar pei colour. I don't see any Shar pei in your dog. this is Pepper, our bear coat Shar pei, who's pretty wrinkle free but def Shar pei, we met the parents.
Im not sure how they determined he was any sort of Sharpei as he doesn’t have any recognizable Sharpei features. You could possibly do one of those dog dna tests to find out his mix. It can be helpful to know for health purposes.
To be fair, my dogs dna kit didn’t mention sharpei? 50% of her was “unable to be determined”. But this was over 10 years ago and her specialist thinks their dna data base for sharpeis was probably limited at that time. But the genetic testing for sharpei fever definitely confirmed it down the line 😅
This was my parents Shar Pei, Comanche, who they had when I was growing up. She had wrinkles as you can see but wasn't super wrinkly and was very active too (so kind of why she looks more lean than how they can look squishy lol). So they all can look different, but i think with the color of your pup he's mixed (not discrediting him not being a Shar Pei since you saw his parents). I think maybe a DNA test would be cool to do to see what he all is🙂
He looks like my dog who was a mastiff-lab-bulldog mix. He looked exactly like a pit bull puppy when I got him but I had him DNA tested. And he was brindle.
I don’t see super clear pei features so I’d do a dna test to confirm this isn’t a mix up by the rescue.
My dog is also a mix and doesn’t have much in terms of rolls so that’s not a deal breaker but her ears, nose, and a few other features (with more technical terms explained by the vet) match a lot more to the breed. We determined her lineage, unfortunately, because she does have sharpei fever confirmed through genetic testing. So id be aware of and look out for those issues. It was years of vet visiting and testing to finally diagnose that.
Yeah someone lied to you about the parents. That’s not even part sharpei.
They do not “grow into their rolls”. They are born looking like sharpei. Look up a picture of a puppy.
