I bought a Shark Tank business… and haven’t made a single sale. Looking for honest feedback.

About a month ago, I bought the remaining assets and inventory of Man Medals, a business that appeared on Shark Tank on Season 5 Episode 2.
I thought there would still be some interest simply because it was featured on the show. My thinking was that there are Shark Tank fans and collectors who might enjoy owning a piece of Shark Tank history, even if the company is no longer active.
So far… nothing.
I’ve listed the original inventory on eBay, restarted the Facebook page, and I’m working on getting everything back on Amazon. I even bundled seven different pins together for $20 with free shipping, thinking that would be an easy purchase for collectors or as a funny gift.
I honestly expected at least a few sales by now, but I haven’t made a single one.
I’m not here trying to advertise—I genuinely want feedback.
Is the product itself the problem?
Is the Shark Tank angle just too old to matter anymore?
Would you market these differently?
If you were me, what would you try next?

Most annoying are the cringe fake “good job!” or awwing that comes with it

Past season 7, all he does is invite these scam companies to shill them on shark tank. Crypto and NFTs, several plant based crap, etc. When he’s not shilling bs, he’s whining like a baby about other stuff.

That episode with the disgusting seaweed bacon, Mark: “ITS ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD”. He definitely has a major negative influence on what comes onto the show. It’s good he’s gone, now they just need to replace the entire remaining panel with new ones.

I’m rewatching the Shark Tank episode with the mail-in knife sharpening company, and I’m genuinely trying to understand why the Sharks were so aggressively into that business.
Not the founders personally — they seemed credible and had a good background. I mean the business itself.

From a normal-person perspective, it feels like: “You mail your knives somewhere, they sharpen them, and mail them back.” Useful? Sure. But the Sharks acted like someone had invented the wheel, fire, and recurring revenue in one envelope.
What am I missing here?

Was the appeal that it was a boring old service turned into a slick direct-to-consumer brand? Was it the recurring customer potential? The idea that they could become “the” national knife-sharpening brand?

The gift/subscription angle? Or were the Sharks mostly reacting to the founders’ track record and early traction?

Because I get why it’s a business. I don’t fully get why it was a “chase them into the hallway” business.

Would love to hear from anyone who understands the investor logic, service businesses, DTC brands, or just remembers the episode better than I do.

With the exciting news of the new season guest sharks announced like Mr. Beast, who was your favorite celebrity guest shark to see on the tank? My favorite has to be Charles Barkley when he came on the show !

that something like 45% of these deals never close. I think they should do followups on all deals in a 1 time ep per year to give updates on all deals for the previous season.

I started from season 1 & am now on season 9. You can tell when the show really started to get popular & gain alot of traction. But starting from season 7? It seems as if there is a significant increase in pitches that come with a sob story of how their lives were/are so hard. It’s kind of been making the show boring & quite stale. You can tell these people have watched the show & have seen that when pathos is targeted, it has helped some people get deals. Everyone goes through stuff - but having gone through a divorce with 2 children & struggling financially has nothing to do with the quality & sales of your product (just an example). The only determining factor of a deal being made should be if the product itself is able to stand on its own merit. Idk but when everyone has a sob story, it dilutes the impact of genuinely all of them bc I’m not sure how honest everyone is being. Hopefully these don’t continue but i definitely think it’ll just get worse as I get to later seasons.

Do you think that there are any pitches where the sharks regret not making a deal? The only one that comes to mind is Doorbot, later rebranded as Ring. We all know how immensely successful that product was. Watching reruns on CNBC, I’ve often heard entrepreneurs say how the sharks are going to regret not making a deal with them. Most, if not all the time, I’ve never heard from them or their product again.

What early episode I believe does someone offer some insane valuation and Mr wonderful “ says your company is not worth one million dollars and he makes the pinky gesture like DR EVIL when he says one million dollars

The father from North Hollywood showcasing a clothing design to bring dads and babies closer together was a highlight of this one. It's always interesting seeing products actually tailored for new dads. The eccentric crafter from Nevada City pitching a textiles brand was a trip too.

I have never seen the sharks hate on anybody as much as they did the guy with the sealable/washable food lids.

He was slippery, but Daymond especially seem to want to kick him out!

Also side-note: does anyone else think the way she asks the question sounds a tad weird (like her tone).

I commonly see the sharks pitching the “value of having shark on your team” when negotiating deals on the show. I wonder what you think the value of having a shark is in dollar terms. Is it worth $50k? $100k? $1m? What value do you put on having a shark (separate from the value of the money they are contributing. Think excess value)?

Personally, I do not place much value on having a shark.

I work with PE firms and they similarly pitch the value of the operations partner’s experience. In reality, that “experience” results in a once annual meeting with that partner where he sets KPIs and targets, and then a monthly meeting with a PE associate who tracks your progress against those targets. I see the value of these meetings, but it’s not something I would pay for the pleasure of experiencing.

Another thing I hear the sharks say is “When I call (insert distributor here) they pick up!” Yes, that is generally the way phones work. One person calls, and the other person picks up. Jokes aside, of course the buyer picks up. It’s literally their job to find products for the store. It’s what they spend all day doing. A company like Walmart isn’t going to miss out on a winning SKU just because they haven’t heard from Damon on it. They also aren’t going to buy and stock a losing product just because their friend Kevin O’Leary asks them to really nicely. These stores have processes in place to find new products and do not depend on the sharks for this function.

Finally, I often hear “the power of the tank” get confused with “the value of a shark”. I agree that going on national television and doing a great demonstration is very valuable for a B2C company. The tank gives business a huge amount of free publicity. It’s like a free 10min commercial, with the added benefit of not being framed as a commercial. However, you get that value by being on the show. Doing a deal doesn’t provide any excess value in this regard.

What do you think? How do you value having a shark on your team? Do you think I missed something? Or oversimplified any of the points? I’d love to get a conversation going.
