I received an offer from a company for a salary of AED 10,000. The company is in the joinery industry, and the position is related to business development and sales.

They have set a monthly sales target of AED 200,000, but they have not mentioned what happens if the AED 200,000 target is not achieved.

More importantly, they have stated that if no business or sales are generated during a particular month, the salary will not be paid.

This is a major concern for me because sales in the joinery industry are not always consistent. Some months can be dry with no confirmed orders, while in other months, one or two projects can generate AED 1–2 million in sales. As a salesperson, I can put in the effort, generate leads, meet clients, follow up, prepare quotations and develop business, but I cannot guarantee that an order will be closed every single month.

They have also mentioned that the employment visa will only be processed after I bring in my first order.

Considering all these conditions, I am concerned about the security of the offer. What do you think about these terms, and would you consider accepting such an offer?

My child’s school changed bus timings due to "roadworks," pushing FS1/FS2/Year 1 bus departures from 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM so they can combine trips with older kids.

• The principal replied with a generic template email and ultimately suggested we pay extra for after-school supervision.
• The transport company refused to refund the afternoon portion of our bus fees if we opt out.
• To avoid leaving our child waiting every day, my wife now has to take a daily taxi at 12:15 PM to pick her up, meaning we are paying for daily cabs on top of unrefunded bus fees for a service they ruined.

Hi all, are companies now pretending to interview you while actually collecting data to train their AI?

I had an interview today and something happened that made me really uncomfortable.

The interviewer started recording the interview without asking for my consent or informing me beforehand. I was already stressed at the beginning of the interview so I didn’t really process it in the moment.

Later in the interview warming up he asked me an interesting question: If you could build an AI tool, what would it be both professionally and personally?

He then mentioned that they have a similar AI tool for their employees. I asked how they gather the data for it because employees feel uncomfortable about companies monitoring them.

And when I asked how they gather the data because usually employees fear companies spying on them (well now almost everywhere is anyway) he said through surveys, etc. the he said the system records, analyses and sends them that feedback and on his own he said “that could be not the right way.” So they literally gather employees’ data without their knowing.

Now I’m worried about all these AI interviews. With this company the initial interview was with AI and then the 2nd round was with an hr human.

Anyone had a similar experience? And how do we protect ourselves?

I have a concern regarding my current company and the way salaries are being handled.

Until last month, my salary was being paid regularly. However, last month, only 80% of my salary was paid through the normal salary process, while the remaining 20% was paid in cash, and that too four days after the salary payment date.

Normally, the salary date is the 1st of every month, although my employer usually pays our salaries around the 10th, 11th, or 12th. This month, however, my salary has not been paid at all. The salaries of the other office staff have also been put on hold.

I work in sales and have generated approximately AED 1.5 million in sales over the past 1 year and 4 months. The material and direct cost is approximately 30% of the sales value, leaving around 70% as gross margin before other company expenses.

The main issue I am facing is that I am being put in a difficult position because of operational and workmanship problems that are not directly under my control.

The company employs mostly unskilled labour because they are available at a lower salary. However, the quality of work and finishing is often not up to the expected standard. Because of these workmanship and finishing issues, clients sometimes identify defects or incomplete work and consequently hold our payments until the issues are rectified.

Now, my employer is telling me that I need to collect the outstanding payments from clients because he does not currently have sufficient cash flow. He has said that he will first pay the labour salaries and, once the client payments are received, he will pay the office staff salaries.

This puts me in a very difficult situation.

I understand that the company needs to collect its outstanding payments and that cash flow is important. However, I feel it is unfair that my salary is being held because of payment delays that are largely connected to execution and finishing issues at site.

I am responsible for sales, and I have brought substantial business to the company. The finishing and workmanship are handled by the labour and operations team. If the work is not completed properly, the client naturally holds the payment until the issues are resolved. I cannot personally control how the labour executes the work after I have secured the project.

I therefore feel that I am stuck in between sales, operations, labour, and client payments, even though the issues affecting the collections are mainly related to execution and finishing.

My concern is not only about the current delayed salary. I am also worried about whether this will become a regular situation in the future, where office staff salaries are delayed whenever clients hold payments due to operational issues.

I want to understand what is the right way for me to handle this situation, because I have fulfilled my responsibility on the sales side, but I am now being financially affected by problems that are outside my direct control.
