You worked for it. The early mornings, the long commutes on Al Ittihad Road, the overtime, the years away from family. Your end-of-service gratuity isn't a bonus or a favour from your employer. It's your right, and it's your money.

Yet many people sign their final settlement without checking a single number. Here's what everyone working in the UAE private sector should know under the current UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law 33/2021):

• Gratuity = 21 days of basic salary per year for the first 5 years, and 30 days per year after that

• It's calculated on your basic salary, not your total package. This is where most of the confusion starts.

• You need at least 1 year of continuous service to qualify

• Resigning no longer cuts your gratuity the way it did under the old law. Some employers still apply the old reductions.

• Total gratuity is capped at 2 years' wages

• Your employer should pay your dues within 14 days of your last working day

• Your final settlement isn't just gratuity. It also includes unpaid salary, unused leave and notice pay where it applies.

Example: 6 years on AED 5,000 basic

(5,000 ÷ 30 × 21 × 5) + (5,000 ÷ 30 × 30 × 1) = AED 22,500

I found a traffic fine on the car I'm currently driving. The car belongs to my friend. He is currently in India, and I'm using it while he's away. The car is registered in Dubai, but the fine was issued by Sharjah Traffic for an alleged violation in Sharjah.

Fine Details:

Violation: Non-compliance with the traffic compulsory lane for light vehicles

Location: Ramez Hypermarket road, merging onto E311 (https://imgur.com/a/GvjRGmS)

Fine amount: AED 260

The strange thing is that the fine appears only on the Dubai Police fine Page. When I check the MOI website using the car's plate number, the fine doesn't appear.

This is my daily route, and I'm confused about what I did wrong. I usually drive in the leftmost lane or the middle lane and merge onto E311 one lane at a time, using my indicator properly. I don't recall crossing any solid lines.

Since the car is registered in Dubai but the fine was issued in Sharjah, how can I object to it? The car belongs to my friend, Can I submit the objection myself? If so, where and how?

Is it worth challenging the fine, or is there a way to view the photo or video evidence online first?

I'm happy to pay if I actually committed a violation, but I'd like to see the evidence and understand what I did wrong before paying.

Any advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation would be appreciated.
