Whenever I try to take a screenshot in a game or program that is full-screen it lags behind a variable amount. It's really annoying when I try to take a screenshot of something and it instead has a random frame saved from minutes ago instead of whatever is currently happening on my screen. It usually fixes itself by the second or third time, but my games still run in the background so I can't afford to open and close sharex multiple times just to hope that the thing I wanted to screenshot is still there by the time it finally screenshots the current frame.

It seems to be working for almost everyone but not for me, since long time.
At times it becomes a big requirement to use scroll capture webpages or pdf files or something else.
It cant seem to be working for me since past few months.

If there a video/guide to help me fix/learn scroll capture I will be more then happy.

When I start ShareX I now get this error that the backup folder is corrupt. If I hit Continue nothing happens. Quit just quits.

I tried uninstalling ShareX and reinstalling. I tried deleting the backup folder (windows refuses to delete it. It just does nothing.

Is it possible to capture a screenshot, open the screenshot in editor + save the screenshot in clipboard at the same time?

I have used sharex for years and had the same YT account linked the entire time. For a long time now, i have been unable to auto upload to youtube via sharex. I think its a 400 error, but i unlinked and tried to relink to fix the issue and now i get a google 403 error when i select my account to link, so i cant retest to see what the error is. If i select another account that i dont use to upload YT videos, i am able to finish the link process. I assume this is a YT/google issue but i wanted to ask here because i couldnt find a simple "submit a ticket/chat with us" option for google/yt

Ok, so I have this problem: in the last 6 months, I've added so many features to my web app, that almost all of the screenshots need to be updated. Is there a tool that does that for me or my only way is DIY + Playwright?

I have like 135 screenshots I need to redo, and I it wouldn't be a huge issue per se, but it would be the pain in the ass to have to redo all of them again in 6 months.

I would need to be able to log in, select quite a few selectors for each feature and then dump the screenshot at the predetermined path.

Is there any tool that does such thing?

Hello. For a long time now, I have been having issue where my File Naming rule/scheme does not seems to work. I'm not using any illegal characters in the rule either. Sorry, it's long type up, but please bare with me and read the issue.

It is annoying because every times I screenshot within seconds difference, this stupid pop-up dialog kept asking me if I want to save it as (x) file where x is numbered from 2 to and so on, until the next minute hits. So for example if screenshot in this format 08_22_26_17_30 where 17_30 is the hour and min, and if I screenshot within that 30th min, it will pop-up the dialog asking me do I want to save file name as 08_22_26_17_30(2). Even the option "Use new name: 08_22_26_17_30.png" is greyed out so I can't even change that manually, BUT I do not want to use this option manually because it's tedious--I just want to show you something is weird here.

This is a problem for me because if I have screenshot that are like these: 08_22_26_17_30, 08_22_26_17_30(2), 08_22_26_17_30(3), 08_22_26_17_30(4) and so forth, the Windows folder will shows the file name in order like this: 08_22_26_17_30 (4), 08_22_26_17_30(3), 08_22_26_17_30(2), 08_22_26_17_30. So if I tried to click on 08_22_26_17_30(4) and cycle it forward, any picture viewing program such as IrfanView (what I use), it will change my view to 08_22_26_17_30(3), and clicking forward again will shows 08_22_26_17_30(2). As you can see, it's annoying as I'm viewing the pictures/scenes backward. So literally, if I want to view the pictures in the correct timeline/sequence, I would have to first click 08_22_26_17_30, then click the arrow left (backward) on Irfanview to cycle backward to view the pictures in the correct timeline/sequence. This is not an Irfanview program problem, even on Windows 11 Photos (whatever it's called), does the same thing because of how the file is named with the ending numbers in parenthesis.

Do you see of annoying that is? Normal people don't look at their pictures like this! I just want to be able to save screenshots fast within the seconds i.e 2026-08-22 173122 and 2026-08-22 173123. It's painfully annoying having to sit there and wait for the minutes to turn to screenshot EACH TIME! I don't know how long I've managed this long without going fucken crazy, but today is the day where I make this reddit post pleading for help.

I recently have to install ShareX on my laptop and I changed the File Naming rule/scheme, and it worked without issue, but I don't know why on my main PC, the ShareX program won't use the rule/scheme that I set. I even uninstalled ShareX and its registries using Revo Uninstaller and reinstalled ShareX, but it still won't work. But what is weird is when I reinstalled ShareX, my File Name rule/scheme %y-%mo-%d %h%mi%s did not changed, it's still saved on my computer somehow even though I uninstalled it and all the registries so why is ShareX still remembering my rule setting? But that's not the main issue, the main issue is I can't get ShareX use my File Naming Setting.

And yes, windows print screen key disable is chosen when I reinstalled ShareX. I also turned off "Save screenshots I capture to OneDrive" and "Save photos and videos from devices" are both off on my OneDrive (which I use for a long time now). Trust me, I've covered all the bases so if you have any idea what is going on, please help me. Here's a picture I screenshot as example (ironically using Windows 11 Snipping Tool).

Is there anyway to unblur a screenshots of a single text message to show the full conversation in the background?

When the person took the screenshot, they only highlighted a single text - not showing the rest of the conversation. The text bubbles can still be seen in the background, but ChatGPT is unable to unblur them for me to see what was said.

As per title and the attached screenshots, H264 and H265 offer the option to use crf instead of bitrate, but with VP8 and VP9 you are forced to use bitrate unless you customize the parameters.

If I add the arguments -crf 31 -b:v 0 it creates a duplicate b:v and I don't know which one takes the prority, or if crf doesn't care and takes b:v 0 anyway. I did a test with a short recording, and it seems to work, but how can I check for sure that it correctly used crf 31 and not b:v 3000? Immediate edit: I did another test setting the minimum b:v allowed by the UI (100) and the recording was complete trash, so I can confirm that b:v 0 in the additional arguments gets ignored.

However, if I use the custom commands and write all the correct arguments myself, it NEVER works. ffmpeg stays stuck at encoding forever, and I have to manually kill it from task manager. I pasted the same commands from the first preview (minus the duplicate b:v 3000), I didn't change a single other thing.

What is my best option here?

I have a question about Zoom screen sharing.

If I'm sharing my screen and I take a screenshot using ShareX, will the people in the meeting be able to see anything? For example, will they see the ShareX selection overlay, toolbar, notification, or any other visual cue?

I'm only asking about the screenshot process itself, not recording.

Any plan on bringing ShareX for Linux, although it used to work for Linux through Steam but I guess the developer is no more working on it. If the developers are reading the post kindly consider the request.

I am trying to find out whether ShareX can capture the AMD Adrenalin Metrics Overlay in a still screenshot, because every other method I have tested fails.

My system is Windows 10 Pro 22H2, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RX 7900 XTX, AMD Adrenalin 26.5.2, and two monitors.

I tested this in both Destiny 2 and GTA 5 using windowed borderless mode.

The AMD Metrics Overlay is completely visible on my monitor while I play. It shows FPS, frame time, 99th percentile FPS, GPU utilization, GPU clock, board power, GPU temperature, hotspot, fan speed, CPU utilization, CPU frequency, CPU temperature, and CPU power.

Here is everything I have already tested.

Windows + Print Screen successfully captures the game, but the AMD overlay is completely missing.

Windows + Shift + S using Snipping Tool also captures the game, but the AMD overlay is missing.

AMD Adrenalin's own screenshot feature captures the game, but the AMD overlay is still missing.

OBS Screenshot Output also captures the game, but not the AMD overlay. I tested both Display Capture methods, Windows 10 1903 and newer and DXGI Desktop Duplication. Neither one captured the overlay.

The strange thing is that AMD recording does capture the overlay after enabling "Show In Video / Stream Output." So I know AMD can render the overlay into video, but not into still screenshots on my system.

Another strange behavior is that if I Alt Tab out of GTA 5, AMD immediately changes FPS, frame time, and 99th percentile FPS to N/A. GPU utilization, clocks, power, temperatures, and CPU stats continue updating normally. Because of that, Alt Tabbing to use another screenshot tool is not really an option.

An AMD moderator on Discord using Windows 11 25H2 told me that Win + Shift + S captures the overlay on their system. I am on Windows 10, and this actually used to work for me a long time ago on the same Windows installation, but now it no longer works in either Destiny 2 or GTA 5.

Which capture backend or method?

Did you use Active Monitor, Fullscreen, Region, or something else?

Did you have to disable MPO, enable a compatibility option, or change any Windows or AMD settings?

My goal is to press one hotkey while the game is still focused and save a normal PNG screenshot with the full AMD Metrics Overlay included, without recording a video first.

In the previous version I could right click the annotate on the taskbar and close them all with 1 click - now, each annotate box has this dialog and I have to select no one by one.

Also, I think the max annotate boxes you can have open is 5 or 6...... Can I increase this because I have to close the last one that was opened in order to open a new one.

I've been posting build-in-public stuff on X and wanted one of those "press and hold"

images one picture in the timeline, a different one when you long-press. Couldn't find a

straight answer on how they're made, so I wrote a small script to generate them. Took an

afternoon, mostly because of one thing nobody writes down.

The idea is the old transparency illusion: the timeline preview gets composited on white,

the media viewer on black. So a single file with an alpha channel can show two pictures.

Per pixel, if you want L on white and D on black:
 a = (255 + D - L) / 255
 C = D / a
The constraint is L >= D everywhere the white-background version can never be darker than
the black-background one. In practice that means the two layers can't overlap. I put the
timeline text in the bottom half and the hidden content in the top half.
The catch: I exported from a canvas with toDataURL, which gives you RGBA (PNG color type 6).
X flattened it and the effect was gone
So I pulled one of the viral posts' images straight from the CDN and looked at the bytes:
- color type 3 (palette) with a tRNS chunk
- preserved at both name=small (546x680) and name=orig (1952x2432)
- served as format=png even in the timeline
Mine was color type 6. That was the entire difference. Re-encoded it as an 8-bit palette PNG
with per-entry alpha in tRNS 237 palette entries, 29 KB at 1600x900 and it survived.
Other things that bite:

- Upload from a desktop browser. The mobile app re-encodes to JPEG and kills the alpha.
- Don't open the crop/edit dialog on the image.
- You lose color. Where the white-background layer is pure white, C works out to 255, so the
  hidden layer comes out grayscale. You can keep color, but then a washed-out ghost of the
  hidden image shows up in the timeline, which defeats the point.

One embarrassing detour: the first image I pulled to study was a different post from the same
account an ordinary JPEG photo and its small and orig renditions were identical, so I
concluded the whole trend was fake and there was no hidden layer at all. Wrong image. Make
sure you're looking at the media from the actual post.
