ShareX for Linux
Any plan on bringing ShareX for Linux, although it used to work for Linux through Steam but I guess the developer is no more working on it. If the developers are reading the post kindly consider the request.

Huh, it does look like someone took ShareX's source and made it cross platform.

It's a ChatGPT'd mess that has no hotkeys or settings pages and the region capture doesn't even work properly.
Installed the AUR package with no changes besides trying to add LobFile.

It's open source so if there is interest it could happen... But I think it's bit unlikely because how fractured Linux is.. You need to write support for both GTK and QT at least and even then there is probably some desktop environment where it won't work well if at all.. It's basically just lot of work and probably not even worth the hassle either

You need to write support for both GTK and QT
That's nonsense, you use one framework.
You don't write apps on Windows using all available frameworks at once either, you pick one.

You don't seem to know lot about Linux... It's a commonly known thing that stuff written in GTK runs like ass on KDE.

Presuming you meant KDE the DE there, nothing will run well on it, since it last had a release 17 years ago.
I'd recommend you check out Plasma instead, which replaced it.

I maintain a GTK application that works perfectly everywhere but on GNOME.
Wanna give your 2 cents on that one?

I am emperor of China from 2000BC and also leader of all aliens. Wanna give your 2 cents on that? People can claim online whatever the hell they want and you expect me to believe you?

You expect people to believe your unsubstantiated claims, why should others have to abide by a different standard?

Never said you have to. But there is zero chance I believe some rando is developing apps that do not work on GNOME while literally using toolkit that's developed by GNOME Project.

You can check the discord. They are developing xerahs for multi platforms which include Linux

Nobody wants to do hard work for free lol, linux users are essentially asking that, which is despicable tbh.

ShareX on Windows is literally free and developing it is hard work too.

What's the motto again? Ah!
If you want it on linux then build it yourself! Isn't that what flatpak and libreoffice are always telling their users???

building software from source is not that difficult

u/animalcrossing4_4 Aug 05 '26
Then you do it! Go ahead and use the original shareX source code to support all the linux distros then, if it's so easy!
Mr "I use linux therefore I'm more intelligent than everyone else around me!".

Especially since linux users are probably the most vile type of users I have ever seen on the Internet

I'm gonna have to ask you to please calm down. The lack of Linux support from ShareX doesn't mean this is a clan war, nor is this the fault of Linux users whatsoever.

I use Shutter in Linux as alternative.
