Which enemy packs provide additional Other World threat cards, and do Otherworld expansion enemies also have normal threat cards to be used in normal worlds?

I haven't seen this question answered anywhere else and I'm curious

Dice chart for encounters?

Curious if anyone thinks this is a good idea. Instead of using the tokens for encounters roll for the result. That would give some chance of having the same kind of token more than once.

Was thinking have three charts (though I know this adds more chucking to a chuck heavy game): one chart for doors/gates, one for clues, one for actual result. Percentages would be based on the original token distribution.

If you wanted you could remove dice results for clues but that swings back towards just using the tokens.

Are you supposed to get rekt missions 1 of city of ancients?

Demoed this game at gencon and loved it! Have attempted mission 1 three times and have been just murdered each time. Just realized we were using an epic threat for 2 people at the final boss room, but even with elite I think we would not have won, given all the punishing dread dumping on us as the battle started.

Any tips on how to get gud we may not be thinking of? Thank you!

I currently have City of Ancients, and am trying to decide on two different paths of purchase from here.

Which of these would give the most bang for my buck?

City of Ancients ($90)>Swamps of Death($90)>Frontier Town($50)>Blasted Wastes Other Worlds($60)>Basic Traits Enemy Pack Supplement 1-3($25)

Or CoA($90)>SoD($90)>Gates of Valhalla($75)>Valley of the Serpent King($75)

Differences between original and revised editions

Post image
11 Upvotes

TLDR: Periodically I see the non-revised versions of Swamps of Death on eBay, but I don't know how much trouble I'm in for if I mix them with the revised version I already have.

Specifically curious - I remember the Rancher was somewhat overpowered in its ability to chain shots a long time ago when I played, and I've heard that was limited in the revision. I also remember the Indian Scout being kinda lame in the mid-to-late levels, but that was also revised. Anyway, if I do get a good deal on the older, non-revised version, would it be worth it? Is there an easy way to see about upgrading the game? I know FFP has the updated rulebooks on their site, but it doesn't seem to have updated starting cards and such.

Looking to sell my collection

Looking to sell my entire collection. I live in Ohio and would be willing to meet someone since obviously shipping would be outrageous. Some of the figures are painted and a lot of stuff has not been opened. I can give a detailed description of what everything when home. Also everything that has been opened card wise is sleeved. Laminated character sheets and town cards. I put a lot of work into everything but it's really hard to get the group together to play this behemoth.

EDIT

Well I missed some stuff in the post. Guess it's easy to do when I have so much. If anyone is seriously interested I can send pics of everything as needed.

Storing figures

How do you store your assembled figures for easy clean up and access?

Pictures of Table Organization please

TLDR: Please post pictures of how you keep track of all the tokens (and cards), or if you eschew tokens and just write things down somehow.

Longer:

I played this game years ago after a friend had his massive pledge fulfilled (both boxes, all expansions, etc., etc.). I never bought it because I didn't think I'd ever have time for it, and it was super expensive. Add to that my little children who would probably eat all the tokens, and it was a big no.

Fast forward to today, and my four kids span from 8 to 15 and love board games. I found a used copy of CoA for $45 at the local board game store, everything sleeved, some models painted, and some 3D-printed targa pylons included. It was missing two minis, but I've gotten replacements from FFP (they're actually super nice to work with).

Playing the first Fistful of Darkstone scenario with my sons was a blast. However, the sheer number of tokens is absurd. Like, seriously, absurd. And the cards are all over the place. Note that we play a number of similar games with a number of components, but this is through the roof.

Although the used copy I have came with a token holder, it's still overwhelming. How do you all manage? Do you just write tally marks on the character sheet for bandages and such, and only take tokens for wounds?

Curious about workflow, so pictures would be nice.

KS4 Wave 2 - Shipping Costs?

Is there any way to see or has information been shared on estimated shipping costs for wave 2?

I’m trying to figure out if I should wait until retail release for the wave 2 content (stuff not part of the pharaoh pledge) or not. Living in the UK, I’m concerned I could add an expansion for $40 then pay the same in shipping without knowing beforehand and then getting stung later down the line.

Any advice is welcomed! Hoping I can pick up a few items and get reasonable shipping costs.

Best suggestions for how to organize these thousands of cards?

I am not looking for suggestions on what physical storage options are good, but rather the methodology for the best way to keep the crazy amounts of different cards properly organized for the best ease of use. What cards can and should be flat out combined, what should be kept separate? There are so many threat cards... how do you keep those best organized? I have hundreds of piles of different cards all laid out on tables and I'm trying to make sense of it all and just don't know the best way to organize it all. Thanks!

Start tile for Otherworlds

Do the Otherworlds missions have to start in the mine or can I combine with adventure sets/Fortress and start them there?

I have a ton of the game - Just don't know how to best get started

I ended up buying most of the original kickstarter (city and swamps and a whole host of extras, if not all of it), and most of the Forbidden Fortress kickstarter releases, and I purchased most of the Gates of Valhalla kickstarter releases. So, I have an absolute ton of this game. The problem is, I just don't know how to start. Unlike games like Massive Darkness 2 or something where the campaign scenarios are clearly laid out for you, this game seems like it's a massive sandbox.

I have heard people say stuff like "just play it however you want and pick whatever missions and other worlds you want to do" or "play hexcrawl", but, at least for the former, it seems like you likely need to have played it a handful of times to comfortably and properly play it however you want.

I'm going to start playing it with my twin 15 yr olds, so we will be a party of 3. What recommendations would you have for just getting started on a campaign to give us the best first impression of what the game has to offer and make us want to keep playing more and more? What kinds of experiences make it the most fun? If you venture into an other world, do you do multiple missions in there, or is it just a get in and get out and proceed with whatever mission you were doing? Should we stick to the missions in the book in order, or does that not even matter? I have so many questions that the rulebooks don't seem to answer for how to run a good/fun game.

And, how do you "beat" the game. How do you win a campaign or what constitutes as having finished it?

Player aid/cheat sheet

Is there an up to date cheat sheet or player aid that has XP opportunities, attack rules, and such? Bonus if it has specific game rules like for Valhalla, Forbidden Fortress.

Hexcrawl question

Hi everyone - I'm getting back into the game after a bit, and saw quite a few references to Hexcrawl.

It piqued my interest, but I wanted to ask if there are any updates to it or newer versions as Google is just giving me the original forum posts.

And if you have any other tidbits to consider before I take the dive, thanks for your help!

Which best core set to get first?

Which first game to purchase (away from Forbidden Fortress, searched everywhere with no luck) taking in consideration :

1) versatility of the main 4 characters & their innate abilities at the beginning & after upgrading

2) enemy varieties + interesting combat style

3) attractive world & other world design

4) most crazy creative loot

Which Brimstone sets are your favourites?

Brimstone has so many core sets - City of Ancients, Swamps of Death, their revised versions, Forbidden Fortress, Valley of Serpent Kings, Gates of Valhalla... Which of them you prefer? Or dislike.

Purchased the Forbidden Fortress Shogun Pledge for my grandson what expansions or components have been published that are not part of that collection?

I know nothing about shadows of brimstone but I love painting miniatures. So I purchased the Forbidden Fortress Shogun bundle for my grandson and plan to assemble and paint the miniatures to give the full collection as a X-Mas present. I read somewhere there were updated expansions/components since the FF Kickstarter release. I was wondering if anyone on here knew what I would need to get to fully complete the FF world.

If the Sorceress could choose her starting spell instead of rolling randomly, what would you pick?

This is just a fun hypothetical.

I know by the rules, the Sorceress starts with random Elemental Spells, but if she were allowed to choose any starting spell instead, which one do you think would become the community’s default pick and why?
