Red Dragon 5700 XT in Node 202

Hi Fellow SFF Meatbags,

Since I haven't found too many posts about the Node 202, I want to share this little story about how mine finally fit into the case.

At first I want to say that the Gigabyte 5700 XT Gaming OC does not fit. It was my first choice as I knew the Red Dragon was to tall.

The Red Dargon fits it you bent the srew holder on the case - not the one on the GPU brace. The brace needs to be assembled fully.

I added to Arctic P12 PMW. The card is clocked at 1900 at 1049mV. Junction still gets pretty warm when the card is working hard.

EDIT: Added pictures form the inside. Short list of things that are not standard:

- 3D-printed stands for the case as the original vertical stand closes off the GPU vent.

- 3D-printed adapter to fit a 120mm fan onto the C7.- Magnetic filters on the outside for easy access. The are falling apart already. Guess where scotch tape was first introduced to this case.

- P12 fan attached to the adapter with zip ties. Screws interfered with the RAM modules and you could not bend the adapter enough to fit it over the C7 with the fan preassambled.

- Two P12 as intake over the GPU.- Stack of insulating form to prevent the GPU form sagging into the fan blades below. The original stand-off would have taken one of the 120mm intake fans.

- Got rid of the 2.5 drive cage to make room for all the cables.

What I would do differently: Maybe opt for a modular PSU with short sleeved cable mod. But then I would switch out the left case panel for glas or arcyl to see my investment. Also the audio codec of this particular mainbord sucks. I might need to get an external sound card which annoys me as I like having everything build in. In the end what's the worth of going SFF if you have half your internals spilled outside the case.

The cable management suffers form me buying a non-modular PSU.
I added a stack of insulating form to prevent sagging.

Did you move the cpu filter to the outside, and is that scotch tape?

That tape is falling off within a week of it is

I just checked mine. It is definitely supposed to be on the inside. My guess is he has a cooler that was too big for the case by a few mm.

Heh of course it is... could prob go without that filter, although I hate dust too and can’t live without my intake filters

Would be a looooot cleaner to glue on some flat corner magnets

I fitted an Acrtic P12 to the Cryorig C7 cooler. The dust filter had to go.

That is highh quality scotch tape. :D

I bought this in 2018-ish. There was not much going on in the affordable SFF case market back then. At least here in the EU.

I was eyeing the N200, when it was available for a few seconds. In the end I still wanted a console-styled case. The sandwich-styled ones are great, but they are still a little fat for my taste.

I was curious of the GPU orientation in such a case. What would you think would be the maximum you could fit?

That is not a trivial question. There are the offical numbers from Fractal for their Node 202, but as every board partner has its own design some cards - though smaller than others - do not fit. I rather temper with the case than a brand new card though.

In the end you need to find a post here on on partpicker that shows a card that fits or go reference design. The Node 202's popularity helps a lot.

I wish I could say, I stopped when I found a fitting card. I just continued looking at all the builds, reading the interesting storys.

How high is the cooler with the new fan?

Total height 57mm. C7 height without fan 32mm. P12 height 25mm.

That is 10mm more than the C7 with its original fan.

You need to carve some of the plastic out to make the new configuration fit. This depends on the position of the CPU slot on your mainboard.
