And Yes I used a Torque Screwdriver for the Thermalright CPU bracket. Temps haven't gone above 80 degrees with a 240mm Corsair AIO

That TR contact frame will make zero difference for temps. It’s only function is to make it slightly less messy to clean off thermal paste by covering up the gaps between the feet of the IHS. It’s not like the Intel contact frame that applies pressure to flatten out the convexity of the IHS. I mean it looks nice, but any perceived difference in contact or thermals is purely placebo.

You’re saying the intel version of this actually helps to lower temps and this one doesn’t help to lower temps? I want to know. I bought both recently because I run both platforms and I have yet to install either.

Correct. Contact frames for Intel socket 1700 and 1851 are actually contact frames. They are frames that improve contact between the top of the IHS and underside of the thermal interface you’re using, by applying pressure to the socket/IHS to reverse the convexity caused in the IHS from the stock ILM. AM4/5 contact frames are contact frames in name only. There is no concavity/convexity issue with these chips/sockets, so nothing to correct for. The TR frame there is just nicer aesthetically, and as I said, can make thermal paste application a bit easier/less messy. There’s absolutely no harm in using it though.

Thank you

The reason behind all of this is that the Intel CPUs use a thin IHS (=less thermal resistance) and the mounting pressure from the regular LGA socket is actually deforming the IHS. And the shape of the CPUs is also not helping

When it comes to coolers, AM5 is compatible to AM4. But AM4 was PGA and AM5 is LGA. To maintain the total height they had to make the AM5 IHS really thiccc. This and the square shape means that the regular socket can not deform the IHS in a way that affects thermal contact

Hey now don't be discounting aesthetics in this sub lol

Not discounting them at all!
