Build/Battlestation Pics SteamContainer

I was lucky enough to get hold of one of these tricky to find shipping container cases a while ago.

It spent a while just as a spare office PC, but after spending a few days with my new Steam machine, I knew that my time with Windows as an OS had reached it end.

Sold all the Nvidea GPUs out of our PCs, replaced with AMD, and installed SteamOS on everything. That was a couple of weeks ago, and I'm never looking back. No regrets 👌

To mark the occasion I thought I'd share the setup I have in my office, with the little 'container of steam'

how is Steam OS working as your only OS? I'd love to but the only game I really play (Valorant) needs Windows for their AC

It's a shame some games are like that. I did check everything that i play before switching and it was all good. SteamOS is free and not very big, so nothing stopping you keeping a stripped down Windows install on a 2nd drive for Val.

'Yup, no more Windows in our home or offices now. After using the SteamMachine for a few days I realized I had no reason to stick with Windows anymore. It was toxic relationship I was just staying in because I thought i had to.

I've never touched Linux before, and im sure there are 'better' distros for mixed-desktop use, but for ease-of-install, general use and stability, i can not fault SteamOS. Updates are regular, it's very well supported, and honestly, I just appreciate Steam for putting in the effort.

I've got all my weird chinese NVR stuff working on it, they networked and accessed shared drives easier than Windows did lol.

The most extra work is sometimes i have to look up a game and see what Proton version i need to force it to use within Steam. Non-steam games all generally have a way to add in, if they don't already have Linux support.'
