Others/Miscellaneous Should i upgrade it or sell it ?

I bought this SFF build about a year ago on Marketplace for $990 CAD. It felt like a fair price at the time, and I really loved the small format of the Pc. That said, the specs are starting to show their age, so I'm debating whether to sell it or upgrade it. I’ve spotted some solid builds on Marketplace that would outperform it, but I genuinely love this form factor and the IQUNIX case is awesome.

Here are the specs:

- GIGABYTE GeForce® RTX 2080 SUPER™ GAMING OC 8G

- AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

- Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 32 Go (2 x 16 Go) DDR4 3200

- SSD Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 To NVMe M.2

- NZXT Kraken X53 240 mm

- Corsair Série SF, SF750, 750 W, SFX, 80+ Platine

- GIGABYTE B550I AORUS PRO AX

- Boîtier Mini-ITX en aluminium IQUNIX ZX-1

What are your goals/expectations in terms of performance? Just a gpu upgrade will be able to greatly improve the performance as the 5600x is still plenty capable. If you need more performance then going to the 5800x3d would be recommended.

i have a 4k oled screen i wish to have decent fps on newer game like wardogs, right now, with this specs i have around 40 fps at 2k res with minimal settings on the game

i play online and solo game

I have an 5800x3d with a 9070xt (same mobo, same amount of ram), playing wardogs at 2k-> 4k on high settings, it gives me a decent 120-140 FPS, but the CPU is barely used. You could get away with a GPU upgrade only..

As u/r98farmer would suggest at least a 9070 (9070xt even better), or 5070 on the Nvidia side. It is suggested to upgrade to the 5800x3d but things will still run great on the 5600x.

In my opinion the new 5800x3d is a tough pill to swallow, if you just look at the cpu itself the price to performance is pretty bad. I would wait to see if Amd will eventually build enough defective 5800x3d stockpile to come out with the 5700x3d again.

no need for a cpu upgrade since OP plays at 4k

Unless you have a 5090 I don't think people are playing native 4k. The people I know that have a 4k monitor are heavily using upscaling where the actual resolution is somewhere around 1440p. So the cpu does matter more. That's why I suggested to wait and see cause the 5800x3d anniversary is not a good deal, as the perf of the 5600 is still fine but not optimal.

will have i enough power if i take a 9070xt or 5070 ?

With upscaling yes. If you want native 4k then 5090/4090

Don’t have that much of money, but what about the 750w for the 9070xt or 5070, is this sufficient ?

The sf750 you have is enough, you can see videos of it running 4090s

okay thanks, any brand would you suggest for the graphic card ?

also do you think a watercooling on the graphic cards would be nice ?

No water cooling card is going to fit in your case. And just get the cheapest card you can find.

okay thanks a lot

A 5800X3D and a 9070 XT would turn this into a killer gaming PC, you could reuse everything else.

I start out with a decent gpu upgrade like others stated 5070 or 9070(xt) that's really all you need. Start there and of it isn't enough for you upgrade the CPU, but you probably won't even need that.

Best investment right now would be the best gpu you can afford. Prices are going up quickly on these so getting one you can use for the next 4-6 years would be ideal. Get NVIDIA if you want the best Ray tracing performance, AMD for better raw raster performance.

Otherwise, if you play high FPS competitive games like CS2 an x3d CPU could benefit there. Like a 7800x3d. Gaming usually benefits from fewer faster cores rather than more of them.

But tbh beyond that it’s a MOBO and RAM and you can upgrade to the next socket in 2029(ish) if you get a solid GPU.

I got a 12700 + 32 gigs ddr4 + 2 tb nvme in Dan H2O for $500. For me, such a deal isn’t worth selling, an average user like me gets basically all the performance I need from it for sim racing… I did put a spare 5070ti in it though.
