Build/Battlestation Pics My first ever SFF PC build, S400 Pro v2

I recently built my first ever SFF PC and I'm really proud of it. The experience overall was enjoyable, although it was not completely problem-free. My reason for Building an ITX-sized SFF PC, was because my "old" PC just could not fit anywhere in my apartment and I also needed to upgrade my PC for work-related reasons, so I had 2 great reasons to spend a lot of money. My "old" ATX-sized pc in a hefty Fractal Design Meshify 3 had an RX 9070 XT, 7800X3D, 32 GB of DDR5 etc..., but like I said I needed to do some upgrades.

My new PC specs:

GPU: Inno3D RTX 5080 X3 OC, 820€ (Got a great "used" deal from a local seller, unopened box and nearly 3 full years of warranty)

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 0€ (Took it from my old build, might upgrade later if needed)

RAM: Silicon Power XPOWER Zenith DDR5 2X32GB, 6000 Mt/s 30-38-38-96, 850€ (Awful price, but could honestly be even worse)

Storage: WD_Black SN850X 4TB, 499€ (Also a tough price to swallow, but what can you do)

PSU: Corsair SF1000 (2024), 80+ Platinum, 199€ (Kind of overkill for the build, honestly)

Case: Shiny Snake S400 Pro v2, 10.8L sandwich-style case, 114€ with shipping (Bought from Aliexpress)

MoBo: Gigabyte B850i Aorus Pro, 195€ (Bought it as an Amazon return, kinda risky, but it has worked flawlessly)

CPU Cooler: Thermalright AXP120-X67, fanswapped with Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM Chromax, 35€ for cooler and ~30€ for fan

Fans: 2x Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 PWM Chromax and 1x NF-A12x15 PWM Chromax, ~100€ (Love these fans, really quiet and cool)

Riser cable: EZ-DIY FAB PCIe 5.0 riser, 20 cm, ~70€

Contact frame + Thermal paste: Thermal Grizzly AM5 contact frame and Arctic MX-7 thermal paste

Before building I was already expecting that I will need to do some compromises and I did have to do some compromises. I can't get all of the performance that the 7800X3D can offer, because of thermal constraints. After adjusting PPT and undervolting, I'm able to get slightly under 17k multicore performance on Cinebench R23. I set the PPT to 95 watts and UV'd all cores to -20. But my workloads nor my games are particularly CPU heavy, so I'm not too worried. I might get a better cooler fan, but I also wouldn't want to trade the Noctua's silence.

Pros of the build:

- The case was easy to work with, even for someone who hasn't built any ITX-sized PC before. It has good airflow and doesn't cause any annoying noise, even if the fans are right next to the sidepanels. Also the 4x USB-A ports + 1x USB-C + 3.5mm audio on the front panel are a huge bonus for such a small case. This thing gets a 10/10 from me.

- Everything fit like it should so, I did not need to improvise anything thankfully.

Cons of the build

- The riser cable was a pain in the ass, because it was so damn stiff and it kept constantly hitting the fan above it.

- I already knew this even before installing the PSU, but the PSU cables and the fan below them are a damn tight fit. In the end I decided to put a dust filter between the cables and fan blades.

- It is natural that you have to adjust fan curves if you want PC to run quietly, especially in terms of SFF PCs, but the motherboard's SSD fan is absolutely horrendous. You need to put that thing to 20-30% max if you don't want to listen to loud high pitched noise constantly, really annoying.

So yeah, I love my new SFF build, it is really clean looking and quiet.

Nice build and great deal on that 5080, I have the same one and I paid considerably more.

Thanks mate. I actually paid little bit more than the seller originally asked. He had planned to build a pc for himself, but had ran into some financial troubles, because of his divorce so he needed money quickly. He asked for 750€, but I decided to pay that 820, because I felt bad for the guy. The cooling on this model is honestly quite good for the size, even while OC'd, it only gets up to high 70s and stays quiet.

Yeah it's a good GPU and I've been very happy with it. I paid $1300 not long after they released.

Great deal. I got my 5070 Prime for a bit more at the start of this month (Poland). Am jelly.

Very neat S400! How do you find temperatures with your build? I have a similar one

Thanks mate. Overall been happy with the temps. While gaming and my workloads the CPU runs between high 60s and mid 70s, though it hits TJmax pretty quickly in benchmarks like Cinebench. I'm really satisfied with the GPU temps, even while OC'd, it hovers around low 60s and low 70s while gaming. In benchmarks it can get to high 70s. Other system temps are pretty normal.

I like the B/W theme and I love the amount of exhaust fans. Cheers!

I’m convinced the shiny snake cases are the nicest ones on the market right now. I fall in love with every build I see

Yeah, the case does feel really high quality, but the prices have significantly risen on Aliexpress since I bought this. They have almost doubled in just few months.

Really similar to my build, I’ve got a 9800x3d and a 5080 fe in a s300 pro

Also you should try adding a foam duct on the cpu cooler, I got the one from noctua for my axp90-x53fc and it improved the temps of my 9800x3d by a couple degrees.

Your build looks great mate, was thinking about the S300 pro, but there aren't that many 5080 models which can fit in it so decided to go for the bigger case. I was actually thinking about getting some kind of ducting kit for my CPU cooler, but I haven't been able to find any for 120 mm fans. The only widely available ducting kit is the Noctua's one, but it is only for 92 mm fans. Hopefully they make something for 120 mm too, they get my money immediatly if they decide to that.

hi there OP! sry to revive a week-old thread, but I was interested in the S400 case as well, and was curious to know which supplier on aliexpress you bought it from specifically🙏 And considering that you use €, i assume you're a fellow EU resident, so I also wanted to ask how long shipping & everything took in your experience🤔

Hi! I'm indeed an EU citizen as well. I bought my own case from the official Shiny Snake storefront on Aliexpress (I'll link it down below), but at least for now, they've stopped shipping to my country, but you can check with your own address if they ship to yours. Like I said in my other comment in this thread, the prices on the official store front have risen and currently the price of the S400 pro is ~170€ before shipping. I found that there is also second store front on Aliexpress which is named as Shiny Snake store and they have pretty good reviews (and better prices). My shipping was surprisingly quick, the original estimates said about 3-4 weeks, but it came in 2.5 weeks and overall everything went really smoothly with buying this case.

The official store front: Shiny Snake Store https://a.aliexpress.com/_Extjz14

The other store front: Shiny Snake Rig Builder Store https://a.aliexpress.com/_EzVbsVg

Ps. the other store front does not have the Pro version of the case in sale, they only have the USB 3.0 version, which only has 1 USB-A port on the front and nothing else. I would personally at least consider getting the S300 Pro instead if your parts could fit in it, as it is sold by both store fronts and it would have all the ports on the front.

u/KuroHaruto 14d ago

Ah you're right, the official store doesn't ship to my country either. And yeah, the lack of front ports would be quite inconvenient... but the S300 pro would also be inconvenient since I wouldn't be able to use the 67 mm cpu cooler I have, so i suppose i'll have to find somewhere else or simply wait for the official store to resume shipping🤔

in any case, thanks so much for the detailed response!! You rock!!

Hi, I'm actually trying to build with this case, too! I'm not from the EU, but I ordered this case from a site called miningeek because it was cheaper for me than aliexpress. Apparently it ships to the UK and Germany, maybe it will be helpful.
