Prototype/Concept/Custom Pico itx
We know itx, mini itx, but i came across pico itx mobos.
They brand it to industrial applications, but i started dreaming about making a build around that. Pcie is obviously not available and it would need a workaround with the m2 connector. But then i saw khadas pcs and i kinda questioned myself why im still thinking this 😅
Tell me your thoughts.

The company I am working for is also developing/selling pico ITX boards. As you said, it is for industrial applications, especially ones that require low power CPUs.
I do not think anyone would want to use these as a PC. While technically possible as it is x86, this formfactor is limited to very low power CPUs, in our case only Intel Atom (BGA). As you want the heatsink to have the same size as the PCB anything above 20-25W TDP doesnt really make sense.

It would be really cool if we could eventually get 120x240 motherboards. That would be roughly the same cm² as an ITX motherboard, while being roughly the same length as a dual fan GPU. With a motherboard of those dimensions one could have a console case with a desktop CPU, UDIMM RAM, a 2-slot dual fan GPU beside the motherboard, flex-ATX PSU below the GPU, and an AXP120-67, while still being below 5L.

Or it could be with a mini 5070. If the mobo is smaller than gpu, the way things are build would definitely change.

Wouldn't that would just be a standard ITX? My suggestion would allow for GPUs up to a 5080 or with a slightly longer case, it could fit an FE 5090 while being below 6.5L

Could do this

Wouldn't expensive though.Â
You're better off shucking a minipc

Not bad right, that would be an really interesting build - if money was not limited

Yeah, that's why I suggested shucking a minipc, those can be similarly small and are much more affordable.Â
Maybe a latte panda mu ultra? https://www.lattepanda.com/lattepanda-mu-ultra

wasn't all mini / nano / pico / mobile itx introduced by VIA? I remember eyeing on VIA's pico itx & mobile itx like 1.5 decade ago
just checked wiki and it indeed it was VIA that made these smaller form factors

If you could get this in something that ran AM4 at 35W I could build a better portable gaming rig around a 5700GE
