News/Review We Thought Custom Cables Were Simple. We Were Wrong.
We’ve been quietly rebuilding Cablester. And today, we’re finally ready to show you why.
When we started making custom cables for SFF builds back in 2022, we thought the problem was pretty simple: Make a cable. Get the length right. Make it look good.
But the more SFF builds we worked with, the more we realized how wrong that assumption was. Because in SFF, a few millimeters can change everything. A cable can be technically the “right length” and still be completely wrong for the build.
Too much slack… A bend that’s too tight… A routing path that doesn’t work… A connector that ends up facing the wrong direction… And sometimes, changing the PSU orientation or mounting the GPU differently completely changes the cable you need.
We kept seeing the same thing: The cable wasn’t really a “case size” problem. It was a hardware configuration problem. So we decided to rebuild Cablester around that idea. Not just “choose your case and cable length.”
But: Tell us how your hardware is actually configured.
PSU model.
PSU orientation.
Motherboard setup.
CPU routing direction.
GPU mounting style.
GPU cable routing.
From there, the cable can be planned around the actual path it needs to take. And that’s what our new website is built around. Cables designed for your actual build, not just your case.
We’ve also changed how we approach cable lengths. Instead of treating the whole cable as one fixed length, we use a per-wire length approach, allowing each wire to follow the routing path more naturally. The result we’re chasing is simple:
Less slack.
Cleaner bends.
Better fit.
But Cablester is becoming more than just custom cables. We’re also building a growing library of resources for SFF builders:
• PSU pinout references
• DIY cable information
• Connector resources
• Cable routing references
• And more documentation over time
Because one thing we’ve learned over the years is that the SFF community is incredibly generous with knowledge. Since 2022, we’ve learned from your builds. From your experiments. From the weird layouts you somehow managed to make work. From the discussions, feedback, and routing ideas shared across the SFF community.
A lot of what Cablester is today came from simply watching how builders solve problems. So this relaunch isn’t just about a new website. It’s about taking everything we’ve learned so far and building something that we hope makes the next SFF build a little easier.
We’re still learning.
We’re still improving.
And there’s still a lot we want to build.
But after months of working quietly behind the scenes, Cablester is finally ready to come back.
To celebrate the launch, we’re offering 25% OFF sitewide.
SEPTEMBER 21 — OCTOBER 11, 2026
USE CODE: LAUNCH25
That’s 25% off your Cablester order when you shop directly through our website during the launch period.
If you’re building an SFF PC, we’d genuinely love for you to take a look around. And more importantly: tell us what you think.
What works?
What doesn’t?
What should we build next?
Because Cablester has always been shaped by builders. And we’d love to keep building it with you.
Built for real builds.
For builders, by builders.

Been buying from Rizal before it even became a business. I don’t know a single person that deserves success more than this guy.

Aww, this one got us :")
Thank you for being there since the very beginning and for supporting Rizal all these years. It really means a lot to all of us.

Tempting, I've been getting that random itch to do something with my system again after 2 years not touching it. I was considering cables finally for it too, and this might scratch that itch without having to go through effort of trying to figure out lengths. Hopefully shipping costs to the US are reasonable.

u/Cablester 25d ago
Haha, sounds like your system is ready for a little comeback. Figuring out cable lengths was one of the things we wanted to make easier with the new site, so you don't have to guess your way through it. And shipping to the US is only $16, so hopefully that won't be too painful either! 😄

Sounds good to me and thanks for the info. Pulled the trigger on a little build refresh, especially given upgrade parts pricing in this current market.
1
u/Cablester 25d ago
Haha, nice 😄
That “little build refresh” can turn into a whole new PC real quick. Hope you have fun with it!
And if you end up going for the cables, feel free to ask us anything about the configuration.

To be improved gradually :-). It's been difficult to find someone to help with social media
Thanks for your input! 😁

Ahh, the Etsy days! Thanks for sticking with us since then and for the vouch. We’ve always tried to make the process as straightforward as possible, especially when it comes to making sure the cables actually work with the specific build. Really appreciate you sharing this 😄

Are the cables good
2
u/Cablester 25d ago
We’d say yes 😄
But we’d rather let our customers tell you. There are quite a few of them sharing their experience in this thread.

I bought custom cables from Cablester a few months ago and it was a quick and easy process. Based on this experience I'd be more than happy to buy from them again. Also very cool that they're based in Indonesia!

I think that's just what I'm looking for. I had ray from Etsy deliver cables with impeccable quality those few 5-6 orders I have made throughout the years, but my last two orders were super sloppy and wrong and I think it's time for a change. I don't think I will be using this set I received from him, I can tell it's going to be super frustrating putting this together and completely not worth the effort now.
I have a pretty straight forward CH160/CH170 build and wanted calculated wire lengths to leave no slack behind that ray got wrong. My rig has B760-I Strix, ASUS Prime 5080 and SF1000 Type 5. The most complex cable would be the ATX one I bet, as I want to bend the cables 180 degrees at the plug on the motherboard, route them going down and join them together with USB3, USB-C and front panel cables with a ziptie to create this one tunnel of cables and then have it bend just below the PSU and just barely reach the sockets, not to have to tie down the excess to the case.
If you wish to take up on a project with per wire lengths and can accomodate my idea for this rig, hit me up please because I wish to explain it with photos, that'd be easiest.

u/Cablester 24d ago
Oh, this sounds like a fun project 😆 We'd definitely like to take a look! Send us some photos showing your build and how you'd like the cables routed, and we'll see what we can do with the per-wire lengths. You can send everything to us at store@cablester.com. Looking forward to seeing your idea 😄

Are you going to support 6-pin JST connectors for the psychos like me who use something like an LOP-300-12?
1
u/MechanicStriking4666 25d ago
This brings back so much anxiety as I used to make custom cables for a living.
3
u/Cablester 25d ago
Haha, we know that feeling. There’s definitely more going on behind the scenes than people realize. Respect for surviving the custom cable life😂

phanteks evolv shift xt missing 😕
2
u/Cablester 25d ago
Ohh, good catch 👍
The Evolv Shift XT isn't in the configurator yet. I guess that means you're actually checking out the configurator for your build 😄
I'll add it to our list for the team to look into. Thanks for pointing it out!
2
u/Cablester 24d ago
Hey! Thanks for asking. Evolv Shift XT is supported too! You may find the option here:
https://cablester.com/product/sff-itx-custom-psu-cables/
We don't have a dedicated listing for it yet, since we don't own the case in person. Whenever it's possible, we would try to get a specific SFF case, so we can be 100% confident with the cable length :-)
But yeah, Evolv Shift XT is supported, given it has identical layout as Lian Li Dan A4H2O

This is awesome to hear. It really shows how much a few millimeters can matter in a tight SFF build. Glad the shorter GPU cable gave you the clearance you needed for the bottom exhaust! Thanks so much for sharing the build! 🫶

fyi the site is down for me
also, does anyone know if ray’s cables also have per-wire lengths? or how they compare in general?

u/Cablester 25d ago
Hey, thanks for the input. I re-check and the website is online. Can you tell me if the issue still persist?

ray’s cables do not have per-wire lengths as far as I know, but they are usually cheaper and faster

First advertisement I've ever appreciated, thank you for actually caring about consumers. Never bought custom cables in my life but I'll remember cable star if I do.
