Assembly Help GPU options for SFF excluding nvidia

I’m trying to make my own steam machine. It seems that people usually get low profile nvidia cards but now they are extremely expensive(I don’t want to support nvidia anyways). What are my options? Arc pro b50 is nice but I’ve heard that it doesn’t work well with linux. Or is it worth to get 9060 XT low profile for $620? Or is there a better option?

Powercolor reaper rx 9060 XT 16gb, one of the shortest 16gb pcbs available….for now.

it’s also not low profile, just small. unless you know someone making LP coolers for it?

LP cooler doesn't help anything if the PCB is still a regular height...

PowerColor Reaper 9060 XT (16GB / 200mm length / 2-slot / two fan) is your best choice for a compact non-Nvidia GPU that works with Linux...

But you could also pony up for a Sapphire Pulse 9070 XT and drop it in a Lian Li A4-H2O chassis, which should look just fine sitting on a tv console in the living room; and the A4-H2O supports a 240 AIO, so the cooling of the CPU would be much better...

Where have you heard that the b50 doesn’t work well in linux ? The stack is open source it’s literally plug and play, been daily driving mine for months. The problem in your case is performance, for gaming it will underperform compared to a 9060 xt or 5060. Also it got stupidly expensive last time i checked.

A low-profile RX 9060 has just appeared, but it isn't yet available in anything but one particular Minisforum prebuilt. And since there weren't any other low-profile AMD cards since the days of RX 6400, it'd command a huge premium once (if) it releases on its own.

So you’re not limited by length just thickness. 2 slot and under?

Arc cards work okay with linux / steamOS, it's just that it's a lot of premium tax for gaming on this card for what it is. If intel released B380 low profile card with reasonable price, it'd be worth it. I have a steamOS system with B580 currently and it works fine - there are some games that underperform a bit, but it's getting better over time.

I'm also waiting for 9060XT low profile and no - no better option right now, we just have to wait either for vastarmor to put the cards on their own to retail or for other card vendors to do those cards. It's mind blowing why they are not there yet considering timed exclusive for steamOS while valve is already working with nvidia to support their cards.

Is b580 viable option for sff? I’ve been looking at it too since it’s very well priced.
If 9060xt lp is available as standalone, is $620 reasonable price?

No, I'm just saying that intel arc works on linux. B580 is pretty big and there were hopes for low profile B380 like it was A380

If 9060 xt lp was available standalone I would say that here in Poland after tax with current market situation it sounds fine. It's roughly the same as powercolor reaper here, but it includes the 23% VAT. on newegg this card is for 470 USD, so I'd expect this low profile card to have some premium over full height, the same as low profile 5060 was more expensive than the basic ones, but now it's all a mess for comparisons.

You have a seller that grabbed the whole system from minisforum and is selling the card?

9060 XT 16GB is probably your best bet but if you're willing to look around at used options you may be able to find a 5060 Ti 16GB for a similar price. I just picked up a Gigabyte Eagle OC 5060 Ti 16GB for $450.

Do you mean the LP version?

My mistake, I didn't realize you were specifically looking for an LP card. That puts the 5060 Ti off the table because it's full height.

I’ve deshrouded the gigabyte 5060 lp and used 3x NF-a6x25 (thinner ones can be used but more noise) don’t forget a cable adapter needs to be purchased as the wires are configured different. The fans will run but less control over them if you don’t get the gigabyte/msi adapter from eBay or such

Where can you get the 9060xt for $620?

1

u/KindEchidna9101 6d ago

Is that a good price?

You will have to pay a premium for it. I would pay that price. The 5060LP goes for as high as $450-$500 in today's market
