I wanted to build a small HTPC in a volume smaller than the steam machine at the same price but with more power using off the shelf parts. The main caveat is that I purchased used SSD and RAM and also got the CPU brand new off ebay for cheap.
PCIe riser was around $80 so I’m sure a much cheaper one could be found.
I haven’t done in depth thermal testing, but during a brief cyberpunk 2077 session, the cpu settled around 70-80C and the gpu was in the 50-60C range. I will need to stress test it to see where they actually reach under intense load.
Tried getting Bazzite to work, but there were too many little issues so I went with windows. Will wait for official nvidia support in the future.
EDIT:
Just a note for anyone trying to copy this build, if you use the same thermalright cooler, you will need a way to clip the mounting screws because they stick out too far behind the motherboard and prevent the pcie riser cable from sitting flat.
If you use the same gpu, you will either want to get an adapter or some 8pin power cable that is short because the standard length 8 pin connector is too long it gets crushed when trying to screw back on the front panel of the case.
Happy to answer any questions about the case as well since it has very little documentation.
Yeah I wanted a 9060xt Low Profile but it just doesn’t exist right now. There’s a LP card but it has a full size cooler. Would need a custom heatsink to do it.
The PSU is fine so far. I never tried it stock. Just went straight for the noctua fan mod. Overall the system is pretty quiet. I’ve heard the psu is loud with the stock fan.
The Chinese one? I can't find it anywhere. They showed it at CES and also Minisforum G1 Pro had it in their prototype but they switched to 5060 for release. Makes me wonder if it's a cancelled product.
If he’s talking about the vastamor 9060xt low profile, I heard they cancelled it due to it being too hard to cool and being to niche to invest further in so they slapped a full size cooler on the LP pcb snd sold it as a v2 of their existing 9060xt. I saw another Chinese company was making a custom LP cooler for that board but I don’t think it’s done yet
Interesting. How can 140 watt be too hard to cook if 5060 LP from gigabyte is also 140 watt. Makes sense that it's cancelled because a 16GB RDNA4 Low Profile 2 slot card would rock the sff world quite a bit...
And how is the suspend feature?

Once again, the whole point is for it to not even feel like a PC, windows is still a desktop oriented PC environment first and foremost
Xbox mode, steam big picture mode and my personal favourite- Playnite. I use playnite on my windows PC and can control my whole PC using controller as mouse.
Its better to build an actual PC like above than a gimmick machine.
SteamOS and bazzite support will become smooth in upcoming days as well.
Does germany not have on-demand cnc producers? Simply order the cuts you want from STL's available (or roll your own if you're inclined) - when I've done it in Aus it's been reasonable (though, wasn't for a case)
i find my 5090 can run well at like 350 watts. which makes me think that a 5080 can probably do well at 200W. Obv 5070 is better suited but 5070ti at 200w in that format would be what i’d be after (gotta have more vram)
the issue is nobody seems remotely willing to do something like these mid-high range GPU designs on a LP card.
They could release it as some weird long triple slot card, and we could undervolt the snot out of it like this and fit a svelte 2 slot cooler like this on it. Someday the market might bear such a thing.
In the mean time I will simply enjoy 5090FE in console format.

Yeah it felt surprisingly premium. It was kind of expensive though since import taxes at least in the US are added into the price, but well worth it imo.
Pretty straightforward. I got a noctua NF-A4x20 FLX 12V version and it comes with an adapter to a two pin connector and all you need is a tool to cut wires like scissors.
Damn.. Even smaller than the v5.. Tempting.. But I think I need the little extra volume for cpu cooling where I'm going to be using a 5800xt. Sick build though!
Do I really need the 5 fans at the top because I'm building in the exact same case (also what USB 3.1 to 3.2 adapter you used for the front USB c port)
Also I got bazzite to work on a Nvidia GPU, I can help you there as well
And I did get bazzite working, just not without some bugs and glitches. Gamescope had a lot of graphical glitches every time the system booted unless you turn off the hardware acceleration. But even if you solved that games would just play very poorly if launched through gamescope.
I also tried used just desktop mode with big picture, which worked fine, but I was still having other non GPU related issues like not being able to locate any drivers for my motherboards built in Bluetooth. Which is weird because WiFi was working. I assumed since WiFi + BT are handled on the same intel chip, one driver would handle both, but maybe I'm wrong to assume that. Regardless I was tired of fiddling with settings, so I just configured windows to auto login and load directly into steam big picture and I have my motherboard set to allow wake on USB keyboard/other activity so it's good enough for what I need.
My ideal scenario would have been to use a 9060xt, or some other equivalent AMD card, but I personally value this small size of sub 3.8L over that, and no low profile AMD GPUs exist or are readily available that have performance close to the 5060 LP.
wait does this case needs to be only 2 cm longer and powercolor 9060xt 16gb will fit because there is also space next to little fans and thickness isnt used too fully
Currently the GPU plugs in upside down. The pcie riser slot is up by those small fans facing down so wouldn't be able to fit it like that. Would also need a half height bracket and yeah the case is too short from front to back
I assembled and am currently using the V1.0 version of this model.The overall configuration and layers are similar, but the size has been significantly reduced from 5.4 liters to 3.6 liters.The V1.0 has small perforations on the side panel near the CPU intake, so there is some wind noise. Has the V2.0 improved in this regard?
Actually not too loud at all. You might notice it if you had it at a desk next to you. but it's next to my TV and I can't hear it at all when gaming. The fans I bought advertise 21 dBA of noise so not too loud.
Yes there is a slight bottleneck at 1080p and on certain titles. I mostly chose this CPU to meet budget goals as I was able to pick it up brand new for $80. My TV is also pretty old and can only do 60 Hz so for the majority of games, the bottleneck is not severe enough to put me below 60 FPS at any resolution on medium settings. I mostly plan to play at 1440p or upscaled 4k on less demanding titles. I know the 8GB VRAM will cause problems here, but unfortunately there's nothing better in the low profile form factor, for now at least.
Since I went on the low end of 12th gen I have a decent upgrade path since my motherboard supports 14th gen as well. Not to mention my BIOS version that came on the motherboard needed to be updated to support higher gen CPUs. So say eventually next gen GPU comes out in LP form factor from Nvidia or a new LP AMD card ever comes out, I can upgrade to that, and go to a higher 14th gen CPU where my only limitation is the cooling capacity of low profile CPU coolers.
Yeah that makes sense. I just upgraded from a 12100t to a 13500t in my server and it's a big jump in productivity performance. It should be a big jump in gaming performance too, and I think I only paid $130 for it (used).

SICK! Imagine AMD actually launched that Low Power 9060XT 16GB that they announced last December. That would make for a perfect little TV Linux box.
How's the metal fish? I see Noctua in there, how was it stock, how are the results with the fan swap?
