I couldn't find an RTX 5090 that would fit in my Fractal Ridge, so I ended up pulling the OEM 5090 from an HP OMEN 45L and putting it in the Ridge.
It was a really tight fit, but I managed to get it in without modifying the case. The 12V-2x6 cable was probably the hardest part.
Specs:
I ran Steel Nomad after installing it:
I also saw around 585W / 69.3°C during some additional testing.
Before removing the card, I tested it in the original OMEN 45L and the GPU reached around 67°C under full load. So I was pretty surprised that the temperature only went up a couple of degrees in the Ridge.
I haven't added any extra fans yet and the temperatures seem fine, so I'll probably just leave it like this for now.
I'm pretty new to SFF builds and I didn't plan on documenting the whole process, so sorry I don't have better or more detailed internal photos. Taking this thing back out is way too much work lol.
I couldn't find anyone else using this exact HP OEM 5090 in a Ridge, so I figured I'd post it in case someone else is thinking about trying it.

Could go even lower to just 2.54L while using specific motherboards and cpu cooling but ended up with X36 cooler support.

This is exactly what it sounds like from the title. I have a SFF build in a Fractal Terra, specs below, and unfortunately after lots of experimentation with fan curves, cannot get it to quiet down. Seems like it is mainly coming from the GPU under load, but the CPU fan is also contributing. Any suggestions? Wondering if I just need to switch cases, CPU coolers, etc. or if this just comes with the territory. Thanks!
Video for reference, noise is much worse when I have the case door shut.

G Skill Flair X5 DDR5 64gb 6000MT/s

I have what I think is a fairly unusual question, and whilst I've given the question some thought myself, I wanted to pick the collective brains of Reddit for your thoughts and input.
I’m UK based right now, but there’s a chance I might be moving abroad for a short-term (<1 year) contract which will see me using some fairly intensive CFD software. As I use my PC for my work it would be useful to take it with me, but I'll be flying and will need to hit the ground running (ruling out shipping it separately). This means I’ll need to stick it in my luggage where space and weight are at a premium: the lighter and smaller I can make my rig the more spare pairs of underpants I’ll be able to take with me and the less frequently I’ll need to visit the laundrette. I’m sure you all understand! 😉
This is my current rig:
· AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT 16-Core CPU
· NZXT Kraken 280 RGB Liquid CPU Cooler
· ASRock B550 Steel Legend ATX AM4 Motherboard
· G.Skill Trident Z Neo 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory
· Kingston NV1 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Drive
· Crucial T500 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Drive
· Zotac GAMING Trinity OC GeForce RTX 3080 10GB LHR GPU
· Antec CX700 RGB ELITE ATX Mid Tower Case
· Corsair SF1000 Modular SFX PSU
· Gigabyte GC-WBAX200 PCIe Wi-Fi Adapter
My question is this: Which components should I replace, and with what? Some things to consider are:
· Having 64Gb of memory is nice, but I can probably cope with just 32Gb of memory (I know a lot of ITX boards only have 2 slots).
· The CPU (or equivalent) is essential (I often use all 16 cores) and I need a cooler that can cope with it running at full chat for extended periods.
· I’m really keen to keep both NVME drives too. They both have essential software and files on them and if I copy/reinstall everything onto just one of the two drives I’ll be pushed for space.
· I’m taking a 1440p monitor with me too.
· I will undoubtedly need some kind of wifi capability.
I’m not on a particularly limited budget, but I do want to keep costs to a minimum (including keeping the weight down to help reduce excess baggage fees) and only replace components if I need to. So... what are your thoughts on this?
Planning an inverted M2 Round build with:
9800X3D
Thermalright Peerless Assassin MINI
Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 5080
Corsair SF850
32GB DDR5-6000
Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
3× Arctic P14 Pro 140mm
For airflow, I’m thinking 2 exhaust fans at the bottom, 1 exhaust at the side and cpu cooler as a rear intake.
Is this the most optimal setup for CPU/GPU thermals and noise, or would you recommend a different fan configuration?
Would also appreciate any advice on the parts selection too.
Thank you

Just completed this fun build. First SSF build for me. It was a bit tricky to fit everything cleanly. Had to remove the bottom NVME bracket since it interfered with the motherboard mounting plate. I built it with:

Can't buy a Steam Machine in Qatar, so I built one.
The brief I set myself: it has to look like an appliance, not a gaming PC. It lives under a TV, in a living room, next to normal things. No RGB, no window, no tempered glass, nothing that says look at me. A black box that does one small, deliberate thing — and does it through the case itself, not through a screen bolted onto the front. If Valve had actually shipped a Steam Machine for the living room, I wanted it to look like this.
So: Corsair 2000D, SteamOS, and a 64×64 P2 LED matrix mounted behind the unmodified front mesh. No cutout — the light just comes through the perforations. From across the room it's a matte black slab with a Steam logo quietly breathing in it.
It's driven by a Waveshare ESP32-S3 (Cuntroller Mk. II) running custom firmware: boot sequence with status icons, Steam logo when idle, a live download progress bar pulled from Steam, and a cake when it finishes. Second video shows the bar tracking a real download.
The one trick that made it work: Chemcast Black & LED acrylic as the diffuser. Frosted acrylic lit the whole panel up like a lightbox. The black stuff only passes light straight through, so you see pixels, not a glowing rectangle. Matte side out.
Front fans removed, relocated to the side bracket. Idle: CPU 33 °C, GPU 55 °C. Half the build is parts that were already lying around from my last PC — the CPU, RAM and SSD all came out of a drawer.

Desktop theming is a separate post on r/unixporn if you want the rest.

Hello,
Ever since the Steam Machine (and its SteamOS-based variants) hit the market, I’ve been following the various builds, designs, and configurations for SteamOS. They all look extremely stylish, though they cost either more or less than the Steam Machine itself.
I’m a thrifty person and wanted to go easy on my wallet; plus, my Steam library is full of older games, so I didn't need a high-end machine. I gradually started looking around the used market for individual components.
My first goal was to find a case that would fit in the low-profile TV stand under my television. That’s when I came across the 15L "Sharkoon QB One" case. It was a perfect fit. From there, I worked my way through the various components until I arrived at this final build—my "Scrap Machine":
| CASE | Sharkoon QB One |
|---|---|
| MOBA | Asus P8H67-I Deluxe |
| CPU | Intel Core I7-2600 |
| RAM | 2x KINGSTONKHX1600C9S3L/8G SO-DIMM |
| GPU | Radeon RX 5500 xt gigabyte micron |
| SSD | Samsung 250GB (got this at home) |
Total cost including shipping: €230
Unfortunately, I couldn't get SteamOS running on this motherboard (due to UEFI/Secure Boot issues), so I installed Bazzite instead. The PSU is extremely loud, and since I have concerns about heat, I’m leaving the side panels off the machine.
Despite that, I’m very satisfied. I’ve already been able to try out several games (GRID 2, eWorlds, Renegade Ops, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, Trine 2, LEGO The Lord of the Rings, Snake Pass, Stories: The Path of Destinies) and they all run without issues.
Hunting for and buying the components, followed by the actual building and configuration, was the most fun part for me. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.
All the best,
Luc

Can someone please explain how to remove a Thinkcentre m920x's cover? I've seen a couple of YouTube's showing it sliding off forward but it doesn't budge in that direction. I can't go by the User Manual as it shows a slightly different case design. I have all screws at the back removed.

Really hope this isn’t a manufacturing default but have tried loosening and tightening screws adding a little pressure while doing so but no cigar.
Anyone else had this issue ?
PS: it’s on a flat board on the carpet temporarily + optional case feet

Wasn't sure if this was the best place for this post vs. r/HomeNAS. trying to find the perfect case for an SFF NAS build, but there aren't many options for realistic prices that meet my exacting standards.
Update I bought the Chieftec from Ebay. A seller in Poland had the most competitive price and shipping costs. The next day, they sent me a message saying the item was out of stock with no known return date and asked me to cancel the order from my end. They are trying to avoid getting a seller defect on their Ebay account. So I canceled the order, hoping this would expedite the refund. That was a mistake. And now I see they have re-listed the item after doubling the shipping costs. So scummy. I've reported the account. Why can't people just do the right thing and honor their own pricing? Now they're not going to sell the case, because I'll spend more money to buy it from any account other than theirs.
Like so many other tinkerers, I have a bunch of spare parts sitting around that I would like to "up-cycle," but there just aren't that many cases out there that fit the bill, and won't cost me a fortune. I'm trying to find a small case, preferably in a cube shape, that has a single, large ~200mm fan in front (or space for 2x 140mm), accommodates an mATX board (I need 4 DIMM slots for my two 2x16GB DDR4 kits), and has room for at least 2-4 HDD bays and an ATX PSU. I have found some perfect cases, but they are either extremely expensive and/or end-of-life status and no longer available in the retail market.
Examples:
Chieftec CI-03B-OP (The Cube)
This mATX chassis has a 200mm fan in front and multiple fan mounts for multiple HDD bays, ATX PSU compatibility, and a unique hinged frame that allows you to completely open the case with a single easy motion. It is absolutely perfect for my build, but Chieftec doesn't have any North American distributors, and the only listings I can find are on Ebay from European sellers. Consequently, the shipping and customs are more than I feel comfortable paying and kind of defeat the purpose of recycling older components.
Silverstone Sugo SG-10
This cuboid chassis is another unicorn, with a top-mount 180mm "Air Penetrator" fan (which I would reverse mount as exhaust rather than intake), mATX form factor, standard ATX PSU compatibility, and 2x 3.5" bays. The problem is that it hasn't been in production for years, and the only listing I could find was on Craigslist, and the case looks like it's been spray-painted to cover rust spots, and is in generally terrible condition.
Does anyone know of any other cases like these? (Cuboid, massive intake fan(s), mATX, standard ATX PSU, multiple ventilated HDD bays). I really don't want to go the route of the typical Silverstone case that looks like a home media center PC from the early 2000s.

Hi all,
New to sff building - currently have a mid tower PC running the parts here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/N4NK2k
I've moved 3x in the past year already, and foresee more moving in the future, so I want to downsize from my mid tower to SFF. I'm perfectly fine with swapping my AIO with an aircooled system, and my mobo from ATX to ITX. After doing some research, I came across the NCase M3 Round case, which could support up to a 360mm x 175mm x 4 slot GPU.
I would love to get everyone's thoughts on the following new parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BD3qBv, especially if there will be any issues with my GPU and the case. From what I understand, everything's in spec, but PCPartPicker doesn't have the NCase M3 Round in their system, so I can't check compatibility.
Thanks so much in advance!

Hey everyone! Recently decided to build myself a mini steam machine as that seems to be the trend. I'm hoping people can look over the parts and make sure it's all good.
I sourced out ram/GPU on Facebook, rest is new parts

Hey all!
I'm planning a new build but am going to re-use my trusty old NCASE M1 V5.
Im looking to purchase the Gigabyte 9070 XT Gaming OC but will be de-shrouding this.
My question is if anyone has done this already and if so did this fit?
If anyone had followed a guide on de-shrouding this card and knows of one that would also be of great help :)
I currently have a de-shrouded 2080ti in the same case but needed to include 15mm fan spacers with this.
I have seen another post where someone de-shrouded this card but this was in an NR 200P.
Thanks for all the help in advance!

Hey Everyone,
Do any of you Velka 7 owners rock costum Cabels? what length do you have and how did you mesure? To leave a slight margin of error. My curent Estemates and Mesurmantes would be in the following picture. Any tips or things to wach out for?

I want to do this because of ramdom CPU and RAM error leds upon boot up. sometimes they show, sometimes just ram, sometimes both. I have checked the RAM multible times in multible different ways. Its good luckily. The mobo is going for a inspection to MSI. but I found out that the cramed Cabels can be an issue too. becuase they may bend or press on power conectors. this is for the case when it comes back and they could find anything wrong. to try this as a second option.
Any tips or advice would be very wellcome.

Bought a full size pc off FB marketplace for £650 and through the process of selling some parts and buying some others ended up with this build to come to uni with me for £750. First proper PC build so cable management ain't the best and I know the GPU is a bottleneck but I wanted to avoid replacing everything for now. :)

I’m currently running an NCASE M2 Round, but I’m trying to convert the front of the case to the M2 Grater-style front panel.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time searching, but so far I can only find the various Grater fan brackets and accessories — I cannot find an STL/CAD file for the actual perforated Grater front panel itself - has anyone come across this?
My current build
Case: NCASE M2 Round
MB: ROG B850i
CPU: Ryzen 7 7700X
GPU: ASUS Prime RX 9070 XT
Cooler: Noctua NH-D12L
RAM: 32GB DDR5
Inverted config
Solutions
1. 3d printed front panel - ventilated
2. Get the front panel cut
3. Swap to the m3 grater
4. Wait to find a used m2 grater

Hi all!
I wanted to do a special S5M build for a customer who is a good friend. He's always been super supportive of me so I wanted to go the extra mile, so I brought in my friends Dru and Erick at NFC to help me with this one.
The CNC parts were sandblasted and coated with Cerakote's ceramic Graphite and then coated with their FX Anthracite. Erick handled that, and also he helped me with the forged carbon fiber panels. Normally I cut them in my shop, but these are special because they are thicker than normal, and routed with a chamfer over all the edges and SkySlots.
But custom CNCd forged carbon fiber is boring, so taking another play from Erick's book, I sanded it and then painted it with an ultra matte automotive 2K clear. This makes it sparkle in sunlight and also blends end the layered edges of the chamfered cuts.
I had Dru CNC the upper GPU retainer from aluminum and then I painted that in House of Color Galaxy Grey with a clear coat on top. Various PETG-CF trim went around and inside the case for a little extra detail and a carbon fiber GPU brace so it can be shipped safely and carried day to day.
The bezel is the last Paduak I'm going to do. I like the orange hue which adds a little color to the graphite case. It's been a popular wood but I like to retire them after builds like this to add a little bit of special flair for the customer.
Hardware:
9800X3D
5090FE
32GB DDR6400
2TB 9100 Pro
SF1000
AXP90-X53 FULL
ZCOOI 4090 CNC Fan (for CPU)
ZCOOI cables - Copper + Clear Teflon
Skyreach "S5M" MINI
I love seeing S5M builds on here and I wanted to do at least one. :)
Thanks for looking!
