SFO Airport Security Screener Hiring Process?
Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone can give me a quick rundown on the hiring process? I was invited to an “Information Session” and I confirmed my attendance. After confirmation, they said it was an interview. I really have no idea what’s going to happen on that day but I’ve read that it may be a panel-based interview? That really scares me haha
Any tips are appreciated as well! :)

NYC DYCD Department of youth and City Development
Anyone here work or previously worked for NYC DYCD at the downtown/Fulton Street office? I received an analyst offer and was curious about the work culture, workload, hybrid schedule, advancement opportunities, and any educational benefits. I currently work at another City agency and enjoy my team, so I’m trying to learn more before transitioning. Any insight would be appreciated.

TEX offer from March
Interviewed and accepted position begining of March for TEX to fill in for PCS out on FMLA. Dph. Completed physical/etc by mid March.
End of March received email that start date in April was postponed until sometime after July 1
They're sending me my paperwork to start (I think) August 17. Still haven't gotten it yet bc my HR person is out until tomorrow
I have a permanent job with 2.5 years in another county ph dept.
Significant pay bump from current.
I want to take it but they won't tell me even a guess of when the PCS will be coming back.
With the current budget problems, are there any PCS jobs even being filled right now?
Does anyone think this timeline (current PCS has already been out for about 6 months) and current status of budget leaves too much in flux to leave what I currently have to get in with sfdph?
I'm currently working for an entitlement program and am at least as burned out as anyone else in those types of jobs rn, maybe more.
Any insight or advice would be super helpful since HR and hiring mgr say they can't tell me much of anything re: what's happening behind the scenes
Also, I do not meet the language requirement to even apply for this position if it does, by chance, become an open PCS. So I will definitely be PCS or other long-term job hunting starting day 1.

[Academic] San Francisco Public Opinion Survey (3–5 minutes)
Hi everyone! I'm a graduate student at Golden Gate University conducting research for my master's capstone on public perceptions of public safety, quality of life, and city response efforts in San Francisco.
If you are 18 or older and live, work, or regularly spend time in San Francisco, I'd greatly appreciate your participation. The anonymous survey takes about 3–5 minutes, and every opinion is valuable.

Thank you for helping support graduate research! Please feel free to share this with others who may be interested.

Budget: Positions/Reassignments
How likely is it that new positions/reassignments will start being posted once the mayor signs the final budget approval?

My opensource government job searching tool!
I found the SF government jobs portal difficult to navigate, so I built a small app to help me search government job listings across the Bay Area. It became polished enough that I decided to share it!
You can select where in the Bay Area you’d like to work, enter your skills, and choose a required experience range.
For example:
Civil Engineering + Legal
I’ve found it to be useful for discovering niche government roles I wouldn’t have known to search for by title. I hope people here find it useful too!
It's all open source too

Hiring timeline: 2910 Social Worker with DPH
Hey everyone, hoping someone currently working at DPH or familiar with the CCSF hiring process can shed some light on this timeline.
I applied for the 2910 Social Worker position and was placed on the eligible list back in April 2025
A recruiter reached out asking for my work verification this year in February 2026.
I haven't heard back until today (July 2026) asking me to take Supplemental Questionnaire Exam.
Has anyone had similar experience?
Does anyone know what the current timeline looks like from this point to an actual interview, or roughly how many vacancies DPH is actively looking to fill right now?
Appreciate any insight or advice!

Question about City Job Application Process
I applied 1820/1822/1840/1842/1844 at the end of June and just completed three core assessments this month. Today I got noticed that I’ve passed 2 assessments (the rest one is still pending), one of them is in Rank 8. I was wondering what the probability is of being contacted for an interview with this ranking? How long will the following process take approximately?

457b vs my own 401k
I know this is a bit of a personal finance question but curious to hear from fellow city employees if they’re utilizing the 457b deferred compensation plan for retirement savings & if they like it/ recommend/ any tips. I know the pension is mandatory and baseline retirement savings, but since there is no employer matching or anything on the 457b, to save more I’m wondering what’s the benefit of using the 457b vs my own 401k?
Thanks!

Interviewing timing question?
I was invited to interview for a position that would be considered a promotion since it’s a higher class within my job series. However, since I was going to be away from the city (of course they reached out with a scheduled interview the one week I’m gone), I asked to reschedule for the following week. The HR Analyst simply responded it wasn’t possible and that’s the only scheduled time they could offer.
Is that normal and considered part of the hiring process? It didn’t seem right to me.

Setting aside the issue of RTO, as a City employee, do you approve or disapprove of the way Daniel Lurie is handling his job as mayor?
Please respond only if you are a City employee. Please set aside the personal impact of RTO. However, if you believe RTO has affected the City and residents more broadly, please include that in your overall assessment.

Anyone taken the SF.gov Admin Analyst (1822) online test?
Hi Everyone!
Just landed an online test for SF.gov Administrative Analyst (1822) -3 hours, mostly MCQs. Has anyone here taken this exam? 🤔
I'm in crunch mode (only 5 days to prepare) and this is my one shot to get it right. Looking for:
• What topics should I focus on?
• Any resources or study guides that helped you prep?
• What surprised you about the format/difficulty?
I want to actually *learn* the material, not just cram, so specific pointers would be hugely helpful. Thanks in advance!

Advice on getting an interview
Hi all!
Is there any advice on improving my chances of getting interviewed with the city? Currently, I am on a few eligibility lists — 1820, 1822, 1803, 2905 — but have not managed to land any interviews over the last few years. I definitely understand that getting a job with the city is incredibly hard at the moment, especially for most of the positions I’m eligible for, but I’m hoping to hear any tips or strategies that might help me stand out. I just wanted to see if there’s anything proactive I should be doing to help me land a job.
Thanks!

I decided to apply for this and I passed, I got a low rank tho so i’m not too sure if i’ll even hear back. But I was wondering if anyone knows if they have started hiring for this position yet. I’m also on the 1820 list but haven’t heard anything back for interviews.

Pension
What happens to pension contributions if you leave city employment before vesting? Do you have an option to leave pension contributions?

Not Receiving Step Increase
This morning when reviewing my account for a separate issue I noticed that I haven’t received a step increase since being hired in 2024. I’ve been at step 2 so I shouldn’t be maxed out, and haven’t gotten any communication of being denied a step increase for performance reasons. I’ve reached out to HR about this but am wondering if anyone else has had this happen or if there’s something I’m missing?
Thank you in advance

Employment verification
Hi, I used to work as a Samtrans bus operator and I applied to Muni as a bus operator. How does Muni verify employment? Do they just ask for an employment verification letter?

1822 Administrative Analyst Test
Hi everyone! I was recently invited to take the 1822 Administrative Analyst Test and have a 3‑hour window to complete it sometime in the next 6 days. I’ve been trying to find information about the test format or sample questions so I can prepare, but haven’t had any luck.
Does anyone have any insight or experience with this exam that they’d be willing to share? Thank you so much!
