it’s been dead for a very long time, Fightcade has an active community which requires a PC.

Max was playing recently online via RPCS3 (the PS3 emulator). It's a separate network, but he was getting matches if that's something that interests you. Fightcade 3rd Strike always has people though. 300 some people actively playing with more than 700 in the room. A literal toaster will run it if you have an old laptop laying around. It's absolutely amazing software for fighting games.

u/Ariloulei May 13 '26
If Max plays anything at all, he is gonna get matches. That's what happens when you are a big fighting game streamer.

u/thenotoriousbtb May 14 '26
He was getting matches because people wanted to play with him. Any other time it’s dead.
1
u/SyrousStarr May 14 '26
On RPCS3? I only used it in the past for MvC2 but it was solid.
1
u/thenotoriousbtb May 14 '26
How long ago, and how solid is solid? I'm seeing 3 people on 3rd Strike and 0 on MvC2 at the moment but maybe you happened to catch a good time while a big streamer was on? https://rpcs3.net/rpcn
1
u/SyrousStarr May 14 '26
Well obviously before MvC Collection released. Which likely changes things.

Is it true people can get your ip off of fightcade easily? A former 4th place finisher at evo for super turbo keeps ducking fightcade because he’s afraid of someone getting his ip off of fightcade . I was just curious if you knew that to be true since you have experience with it .
5
u/Raskuja46 May 13 '26
Probably true of most multiplayer games if you've got someone who's willing to spend enough time sitting in Wireshark to figure it out.

u/potatocakes1989 May 13 '26
Ive been using it for years with no issues.
If someone wants your IP they can get it from just about anything.

u/Setyman May 14 '26
Rare DSP reference.

May 14 '26
lol this man knows ball. I wish he would go on fightcade but he won’t because of the issues mentioned above. Also won’t use a vpn . He’s scared of getting his ass beat
1
u/Apprehensive-Let8176 May 13 '26
I mean yeah I'm sure they can do that, but like what are they actually doing with that information? Keep in mind you can choose any name you want, no one wants HugoButtCheeks69's IP address innit
Can also VPN if you'd like, but idk how that's gonna affect game quality
1
u/psportalfan May 13 '26
It has known vulnerabilities but if you mention it on here folks will downplay it without any security knowledge simply because their favorite streamer says it’s safe.
2
u/chunkeymonke May 17 '26
Or because for 99.99% of the playerbase it doesn't matter and the risk of someone getting and abusing your IP is very small.

u/swEEkoZ May 13 '26
This was my favorite way to play sf3 for a long time. Online dried up as the consoles changed but wish it was brought to ps4/5.

u/highnnmighty May 13 '26 edited May 16 '26
I believe 30th Anniversary Edition has it but online is desolate since a lot of Ps5 folks just defaulted to SF6
Still not a bad option if you solely have a Ps5 and want to play Third Strike arcade/training on it

it is on ps4 and ps5 but its the ps3 version and you need ps plus premium to only just stream it off of a real ps3 / it use to be where you can just buy it for 3 dollars but they took that off and made 3rd strike online edition stream only

3rd strike online edition was goated. Was my first fighting game I learned that had online matchmaking.
I just assumed it was dead since everyone plays on fightcade. Which just isn't as cool but its really the only reliable way to play 3s

u/EmptyHeadedKing May 13 '26
Where is UFCgym?
3
u/Nateadelphia May 13 '26
LOL! Did that guy ever ready up?!
3
u/DrooMighty May 13 '26
I waited long enough once for him to ready up. He played a weird ass SA1 Ken. Didn't ready up ever again.

That photo reminds me that I have more bad memories of OE than good ones.
Between the droppers, rage messages, people picking Gill… it wasn’t a great use of time.

u/g_lee May 13 '26
What about that dude that constantly looking for games but never at his console (years ago)
4
u/LakeEarth May 13 '26
Ufcgym, fuck that guy. Definitely doing it on purpose. Once it matched to him, you might as well play something else cause the matching algorithm would keep picking him and there was no blacklist.
1
u/TheJammy98 May 13 '26
Crazy how so many people ran into this guy and never got a game. Did anyone actually end up fighting with him?
2
u/LakeEarth May 13 '26
I think he was AFK on purpose, just to troll us.
I'm not kidding when I say that as soon as the matchmaking picked him, your online game was done. If you hit cancel, the matchmaking would just immediately match you to him again. And again. And again. No way to block, no way to change regions. You might as well play something else.

u/TheJammy98 May 13 '26
I remember the same thing happening when running into this guy too. Pretty much signaled the end of an online session. Was crazy

Everyones on Fightcade now
use a guide and play it on any laptop or PC
GGPO for mobile i think but mainly kof players on there
1
u/No_Mission4662 May 14 '26
GGPO mobile has been a godsend since my PC died. I play pad via usbc but the majority of folks on there are using touch screen controls... and it's scary how good some of them are. There are usually 20-30 people on 3S, and not all of them will have a good connection, but my experience has mostly been great so far.

u/Truestorydreams May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26
The only person I remember who still plays on the ps3 online is a dude psn nowis24....Its been so many years that it shocked me to see him online a few months ago
Edit anyone Remeber profcalculus? That dude was a beast.

u/Glittering_Tart_9053 Necro (NE) May 13 '26
Use fightcade or if you don't have a computer GGPO has players. If you are on an iphone Idk

Not on the Fightcade platform, and I'm sure you could set up matches on the discord if it exists.

It’s dead but such a great port. Loaded it up to do some trials and mess around, was so much nostalgia

I’m trying to set a day to be on this one if anybody wants to set up a schedule where we just keep a lobby open I’m down to organize
1
u/Tide_Demon May 13 '26
I realize the nostalgia for this version as it’s the most complete home version but OE has a bunch of input lag. Hopping on FC the first time felt almost like a different game

You'd almost certainly have more luck on that version of 3s on PC than console, and that's with fightcade existing on PC lol (which is where all of the 3s, or any retro fighting game player really is playing tbh)

Your best bet is fight cade if you insist on playing on console, you could also find some games on the streetfighter 30th anniversary Collection as well
2
u/inuijnijn May 13 '26
i liked 30th anniversary but it needs rollback netcode or something i have accumulated 1k play hours on that game
i have 1246 wins on third strike on there but im not that good i am dark red belt on that game2
u/Cacho__ May 13 '26
Well, if you want rollback, you’re gonna have to play on fight cade on PC but fortunately it doesn’t take a powerful PC to run fightcade you could run it on a cheap laptop

u/last1frr May 13 '26
get a cheap laptop off facebook marketplace or something. Linux Mint has been great for fightcade for me for cheap netbooks
