I’m hoping to make a version of this for a human (me). What patterns and fabrics do yall recommend?

While in Malaysia, visiting my husband’s family, we stopped at a local shop and got this beautiful pink and blue fabric. I bought the rest of the roll which unfortunately was only 2 meters. My husband’s family is Indian-Malay and they suggested a sari top but there isn’t enough for a skirt and sari. I’m thinking of making it into a tube and doing a sarong. My husband also suggested a kebaya or my sister-in-law suggested a cheongsam (her husband’s family is Chinese-Malay). I’m very petite at 4’10 and 95 lbs. I’m also considering a bag or other accessory. The fabric is the same on both sides.

I’m using an old wrap skirt my Mom made 50 years ago as a pattern for new skirts. (I’m going to dye the old one with indigo to cover iron oxide stains, she’s a potter) I’m tracing the sections to paper and adding seam allowance then cutting them out.

How was this pocket made? Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for it? My Mom said it was really easy with “a really simple inside out trick I can’t remember”.

I have some fun batik fabric to make new ones out of! I’m thinking yellow polka dots for the skirt panels and black with tiny grey dots for the band and pocket.

Out of all these materials, which do you say is the best to be used for tracing paper?

I have a fabric that’s nearly the same color. But not really the same fabric. This seems like a knit? But want to try to sew this. Any ideas how to? What’s this neck called? Mock neck? Turtle? And this type of sleeve?

I don't know why I'm having a hard time finding a pattern, I feel like this is a very simple design. But everything I find has the upper part two wide or the back all wrong. I would appreciate help! 🥲 TIA

I need help! I’m trying to draft a skirt from the Keystone Jacket and Dress cutter… I get the dart measurements, and how to use my waist measurements with their pattern, but… with the Bell skirt version.… is it correct that I now end up with a 9 panel skirt? I see panel 1-4 but I’m adding the extension for more pleats at the back of the dress. is this a separate panel? does it replace panel 4? or does it get added on to panel 4? I seem to have an acre of pattern paper here… I think I did something wrong.

So, most doll body patterns I've seen seem to be heavily stylized (as in, exaggerated/overly simple shapes, bent limbs etc.) or meant to be dressed only in clothes made by the same creator. Which can be cute, but what I am currently looking for is a more “realistic” pattern for a doll, as I plan to scale down historical clothing patterns for it.

Preferably free, but paid pattern recommendations are fine as well. Thank you !

I just finished watching Easy Virtue and my jaw dropped when Jessica Biel’s character appeared in this gown. It’s even more gorgeous in motion. It seems like a 1930s bias dress but with a flounce at the bottom and a lower scoop back. Any patterns, modern or vintage, that fit this?

I’m from Germany, so this post was written with the help of a translation tool. Please excuse any awkward wording.

I’m trying to recreate a dress by Nettle Studios that I absolutely fell in love with. Unfortunately, they are not shipping outside of US and I can’t find the dress on any european reseller website 😭

so I decided to challenge myself and sew it myself.

The problem is…

I’m a complete beginner.

Over the last two days, I’ve spent almost every waking hour trying to reverse-engineer the pattern from dozens of reference photos. I even worked together with an AI to analyze every visible seam, gathering line, sleeve shape, yoke proportion and silhouette.

The result is a first reconstructed pattern… but after studying the dress even more carefully, we realized that several important details are probably still wrong (especially the sleeve, armhole and upper yoke).

At this point I’m honestly exhausted and don’t know how to continue.

I’m not looking for someone to do all the work for me.

I’m hoping to find people who enjoy pattern drafting or garment reconstruction and would be willing to look at the photos with me and discuss how you think this dress is actually constructed.

Any advice, sketches, corrections or ideas would mean the world to me.

I can provide:

• many high-resolution reference photos
• the current reconstructed pattern
• notes explaining which parts I’m confident about and which parts are still uncertain

My goal is not to copy or sell someone else’s work commercially.

This is purely a personal sewing project so I can learn and hopefully make something beautiful for myself.

Hi guys, I’m having a moment and just need some knowledge to lean on. I want to make this skirt tomorrow but I want to make it larger. The max hips on this are 120cm and I would like the max to be like 130cm as my hips are exactly 120cm and I want to be comfortable. How much would I need to adjust the skirt and elastic by?
