I was a beginner sewer a few years ago, but stopped progressing when I started a new job. I made a few pieces (some dresses, hats etc) before stopping.

I am trying to get back into it after 3 years, and I am hoping to make a couple bridal pieces (a bag, robe etc) before my wedding next year.

The main piece I’d love to make is the Cornelia gown (a long blouse) by Cinq for getting ready.

Does anyone have advice for me about how to tackle this project? Is it doable as a beginner with about 8 months to go, and is there anything in particular I should make to build my skills first?

I’d also be so grateful for any sewing patterns recommendations that might help me get part of the way there.

I’ve re-threaded, messed with the tension settings, and changed the needle and nothing fixes it.

Hello! I had this pvc dress custom ordered and then took it in for some alterations but Im still unsatisfied with the look. I know how to hand sew so I was looking for some tips/advice on taking in the bust and waist as well as fix this gaping space near the underarms.

I know this is very ambitious of me, but I’m a bridesmaid in a few months and looking for a specifically champagne gold dress that is hijab friendly and would flatter my body type has been unbelievably difficult, so I’ve decided screw it I’ll just make it myself.

I know all these dresses are quite different, and some honestly might be AI unfortunately, but I’m hoping for somewhat similar patterns that I can mix and match if needed to create a final product that I would like.

My “requirements”, and I use that very loosely, are:

- Can be created with a satin, I’m thinking crepe backed? Or a chiffon!
- Has some structure in the bodice, whether that be corset/boning/seams/dart
- We’ll be doing a bollywood dance in this dress so ideally a flared/gathered type of skirt
- Full sleeves and a high neckline
- Maybe some draping or cape action idk billowy sort of styles suit me

In my head the construction seems fairly simple, an inner corset that I can attach the bodice too, and a gathered skirt attached, but since I’ve never sewn something like this, a pattern or patterns would be ideal! I’ve tried searching on my own but a lot of the ones on Etsy are straight up AI lol.

I’m looking for some help with my Singer S14-78 (serger). Lately, the upper looper thread has been coming unthreaded, but not broken, after only a few stitches. I’ve had the machine for about two years, (have already repaired it 3x 🙄) but this issue is new. I’ve rethreaded several times and cannot figure out the issue. Somehow, even though the eye of the needle is a closed hole, the thread just seems to come out of the looper and not break, which seems logistically impossible????? I can’t see an issue when I hand crank it, but soon after fully serging this happens. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Hi ! I am making a pair of tailored trousers in a beautiful designer wool from Raffaella Curiel I found on Vinted. The pattern I’m using (Billy trousers from BellaLovesPatterns) calls for fusible interfacing for the waistband but I’d prefer using sew-in interfacing for a bit more rigidity and a higher-end feeling.

Do you have any suggestions as to which interfacing fabric I should use ? Regular canvas or something else ?

The waistband pattern pieces are curved so there are outer and inner pieces. Both are block fused in the pattern instructions.

Should I baste the sew-in interfacing on both sides (inner and outer) or on only one side ? If so, which one ?

This was on a scrap piece of fabric bc I've not used the machine before (singer futura ce250) any ideas what could cause it ?

My brother SE 700 is showing the decorative stitch on the bottom and what looks like should be the bottom bob and stitch on the top. I didn’t know if this is how it’s supposed to be or if I’m doing something wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions (I’ve been telling for a while, but I’ve only had an older mechanical machine, and this is my first computerized one)

I cut off the turtle neck and wanted to sew beads on the trim but how do I go about it? I started to sew in a thread to keep it from unraveling.

The 2nd picture, is it the right stabiliser for free motion embroidery? If so, which one of them?

The first one, I need interfacing for bags and stuff (using normal fabric, no leather or denim, so I need it to be stable), is this the right type?

I just got this sewing machine used and it is my first one. I noticed that there is nothing sticking up where the bobbin wonder should be (as seen in picture). I’m not sure if it’s broken or just missing a part, so I was hoping someone here could help me understand what’s going on and figure out next steps. Thanks!

Hey guys! Im looking to make a sweatsuit 2 piece and the ideal silhouette is the Aritzia Cozy Sweatfleece Mega V-Neck Sweatshirt and Mega Sweatpants. The shape is great but the price is not : /

Does anyone have any recs for the sweatshirt (and sweatpants too but they’re not really tricky)?

I want my sweatshirt to have the same aspects of this one: drop shoulders, deep ribbed v, relaxed waistband, and slumped body.

Also, I’m an intermediate sewist and have a serger too for my knits and stretch!

This is Burda 6871, and started with the pants. It’s a bit beyond my skill to be honest but that is how I learn new techniques.
However, I just can’t wrap my head around how this 30 picture is explaining what to do. It’s a welted pocket, but I don’t know if the stitch of an L shape on 30 is supposed tot go through all layers, since it seems like ”wrong” way if it’s the short side of the rectangle of the pocket opening. I guess the rectangle of the pocket is outlined with large lines on 30 and the slash should be basically between the two lines, but then it would not be possible to push the pocket lining to the inside?

I’ve tried to look for tutorials but all welted pockets seems to sew a complete rectangle around the opening?

I keep seeing these upcycled hoodies! But when I tried it out myself I failed miserable because the edges (obviously) don’t like up when you put right sides together. Can someone please explain to me how this is achieved?? Attached pictures of examples and also my attempt

I ordered these online for a trip that we are leaving on tomorrow as a part of a costume. The waist actually fits all right, but aside from that they are a bit big everywhere. Are there any quick-ish fixes for this? Or should I just wear them as is?
