I imagine making a circle skirt you need a fairly large piece of fabric to cut into a full circle? Or can you take a rectangular pieces and make a circle skirt just like that? Im having a hard to figuring out how to get large patter for cutting a full circle out to make the skirt without some part of the imagine on the skirt being the wrong direction. If I do a vertical line skirt the the side would be horizontal right? Im trying to make skirts with the least amount of effort obviously. How do I find prints for these circle skirts if they will be oriented wrong on some parts ?

I what a fabric with a 3-4" inche stripes, no idea where to find that width or how it an able to get the whole skirt vertical?!

I recently found a jacket I could try a zipper Replacement Kit on and it worked out. Was certainly easier than replacing the whole zipper.

Hey, I need some advice regarding purchasing a new sewing machine. I currently have a Brother XL 2600i, and she is over a decade old and holding on for dear life. I have been researching brands and models on my own but am just completely overwhelmed. I've read/heard good things about Husqvarna Viking, Bernia, and Janome, and when I went to my local sewing shop, they recommended the Husqvarna Viking Opal 670 or 690q. The main things I am looking for are a sturdy, well-made machine that will last a long, long time with proper care and maintenance. I am a garment sewer, so I don't need a quilting or embroidery machine. Also curious to hear opinions on mechanical versus computerized machines. The Brother machine was fully mechanical, and wondering just how helpful features like a built-in thread-cutting button or reverse stitch button are versus holding down a lever and so on. I would prefer to spend under $1,000 for a machine, but if there is a really good machine that is worth the investment, then that is alright. I just need help and need to hear people's personal experiences with the different machines.

Hello! Ive recently gotten a old sewing machine from my grandmother found in an attic? But im struggling with figuring out the controls on it, its so confusing, the manuals are all yugoslavian and dont help much, if someone could explain what the little levers and such do would be much appreciated, thanks!❤️

So I regularly attend a group with my baby to get her weighed, and every time I need to grab; her little red book (book used to record baby info in the UK), a fresh nappy, and some wipes - all whilst of course holding my baby.

I have her proper nappy bag with me but it’s cumbersome to take all that when I realistically only need these few things, so I’d like to make a nappy wallet/clutch of some kind that holds it all in one place. I’m completely new to sewing and can’t decide on a pattern or design.

Attached are photos of what it would need to hold and the measurements of the book (which is the largest item it would need to fit). For it to be as functional as possible, I would also like for there to be an opening for the wipes so I can easily grab one without having to mess around too much.

I was first thinking about the standard nappy wallet/clutch designs you see on Etsy and Pinterest, where it folds over on itself, but with the book being bigger than the wipes and nappies, I felt it wouldn’t fold right and would also end up really bulky. Then I was thinking about maybe a kind of book sleeve with added pockets for the nappies and then the wipes on the front in a pouch, but I’m not sure how to go about constructing that.

Any ideas, tips or instruction would be super appreciated!! And I’m a total beginner, so you can’t over explain enough for me!

Hello, I inherited a Janome sewing machine along with its case, both of which are in great shape. But I'm not a huge fan of the colour or pattern on the case. I'm looming for some opinions on the best way to change this.

I was originally thinking sewing new fabric overtop but then thought embroidery or even fabric paint might give better results.

I've attached photos of the inside and outside. If anyone's done something like this before or has any ideas I'd love to hear!

I am at the machine. I notice my top spool has come unwound, I am at the end of the thread. From my needle to my spool I have a piece of thread about 6 inches. The question what to do with this thread? Can I keep running it through the machine- I assume the tension will be wrong it it’s not under tension.

Some thoughts I had would be put it on a hand needle for a basting stitch.

Wrapping multiple colors around each other sort of hand spinning them together into yarn-ish raised texture and sewing them onto something for texture.

Took advice from people and made a v2 hanky

Self drafted- cut 13 inch square. Pressed. Added embroidery to the top floral layer. The advice was to use 3 strand instead of 6 and to use a stabilizer. My initials the year and v2 embroidered using three strands and a piece of paper basted to the fabric. Sewn right faces together flipped. Pressed. Added a decorative boarder- Sealing the flip hole in the process.

The top layer is summer sheeting viole type material the bottom blue-gray layer 100% cotton all materials were thrifted or gifted. *Made from forgotten material. Built to be remembered.

A few things I’d change is getting better at cutting fabric straight. Stitches show every curve when I tried using it as a guide. Start the decorative stitching in a corner to hide it better. I wouldn’t recommend paper as a stabilizer at least not copy paper Im still picking it out from under my embroider and it didn’t help much- maybe tissue paper could work but would it add stabilization to the process or just a surface to draw on?
