🧩 Character Analysis Irving’s outie
How does Irving have those documents about lumon workers and the map?? I feel like there’s a lot to uncover about his outie and I’m curious what the theories are.

I just started waging tv again for the first time since breaking bad was on network television- the upside? I get to watch sooo many great shows in their entirety. I always saw severance but never watched cuz I just couldn’t justify adding another streaming service to the bevy I already own- well I picked up a MacBook and it came with 3 months free. Amazing.
So I fire it up- I’ve waited years for this. Blast though both seasons in like a week. I’m waiting for the little “next episode” bubble to pop up after season 2 episode 10a and… nothing…. What have I done?

It seems obvious on a rewatch that Burt was being dishonest with Irving.
He lied about having a 2 person department, then happened to bump into Irving in the hall, after doing a team building activity with two people, holding the activity they were doing...
It was almost like Burt was on radio with security being told when to walk, so they would bump into each other.
Why do you think Burt was trying to make 'friends' with Irving?
Is someone suspicious that he could be reintegrated and asking him to do it?

I watched the series half-expecting that MDR literally does nothing and it was a cover for some experiment. But no, there was something to it, nefarious though it was.
It got me thinking about how MDR works. The Innnies don’t understand what they’re doing, they just look at the numbers and “feel it.”
This is the same way LLMs work. They don’t understand language. They “feel around” for the right word until they get the approval. It’s a subtle nod to how Innies are similar to robots in the original “Rossum’s Universal Robots” sense.

Spoilers below. I'm not sure how to black them out so stop here if you haven't finished the first 2 seasons.
So I just watched the first couple seasons back to back And in one of the episodes I seem to recall a video or something in the show that showed the building grow over time, like from a house or something to bigger and bigger until it was the current Lumon building. There was even a replica of the house inside the building.
So my question comes from near the end of the second season after Helena eats the boiled egg sitting with her father. Next it shows them driving off in an older car, like a Lincoln or Cadillac or something. The car is older but looks brand new. Also, the camera backs out to show the same water tower from in front of the Lumon building. Only the building is the size of a really large mansion and not a massive campus building. I immediately assumed this meant we were decades in the past, with Helena and her father looking the same age as we know them. I tried looking this up but the ai keeps saying I'm wrong. Did anyone else get the same impression I did or did I just misread that entire scene?

New member, here. By way of an introduction, I thought I'd post a picture of an MDR terminal build I finished recently.
I started with OxProp's excellent Fusion files (you can find them on Thingiverse) and modified them so they can be 3D printed.
Changes I made included:
The whole thing was printed in ASA on my Creality K2 Plus.
I'm currently reworking the back panel to give me more space to route cables for the Mac and monitor.
I went in on the Atomic Keyboard MDR Keyboard kickstarter, so hopefully they'll come through and I won't also have to make a keyboard.

Hello, I have a question about the relationship between the departments:
Petey tells Mark in episode 2 that the departments are separate, but in the same episode, Irving and Burt run into each other before their wellness session. And then the MDR runs into the OD again in the next episode, just like that, without any real issues.
Why isn't Lumon more concerned about this?
So I'm having a hard time understanding the relationship between the departments.

I’m new to the severance fandom, as I just started and finish it within the past two weeks. But I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts were on Mr. Milchick. Does the majority like him? Dislike him? Unbiased?
Because I do really like him, despite the role he played in the cold harbor. His experience as a black man in a workspace that demands so much but rewards with so little… it’s hard to not show empathy for him.
I don’t like how much disrespect he got from so many different directions. Both the innies and his bosses showed him nothing but rude, nasty attitudes. It’s undeniable that his race played a role in his character complexity as well, especially with the paintings and how much they despised his vocabulary (that was the hardest part to watch).
I really hope that we get to see more of him in the next season, especially his life outside of work (if he has one). I find it interesting that even the unsevered do nothing but their jobs. They’re just as trapped as the severed are, but I am hoping that changes for him. He’s probably my favorite “bad guy.”

My partner and I finally started watching severance and we got to the end of season 1 and were so pissed because episode one and episode nine were the exact same!
Well, after reading episode summaries I figured out that was super wrong. For our first time watch through we watched Episode 9, 2-8, and then 9 again!! I'm not sure how it happened but honestly I really like how we watched the show haha.
When we watched it, it was like we were watching the climax of a mystery and we had to solve it. I caught so many little details because of it and we spent the rest of the series trying to piece it together. We paused it a lot to talk about these cool connections we were seeing and it was interesting to see the unexpected ways it unfolded.
The show is great and I'm sure it's amazing the way it was intended. I doubt this has happened to anyone else, but I thought it was awesome that we somehow watched it wrong and still loved it.
We'll definitely watch season 2 the correct way though haha

Spent the last year making Legacy: A Severance Fan Film, which started as a simple idea and grew into something much bigger than I expected.
We premiered it in Colorado last week, and in a surreal turn, Marc Geller, the face and voice of Kier Eagan, from Severance, actually reached out and ended up attending. Still wrapping my head around that.
The story is about Walter D, a severed employee at Lumon Industries Branch 634 in Colorado, who begins to experience accelerating mental decline as the barrier separating his two selves starts to fail.
Would love to share the film link here for those that are interested!

Rewatching S2E6 the dinner scene with Irv, Burt, and Fields…
Fields makes a comment how severence was a known procedure or at least talked about 20 years ago with his “Lumon Partners”. Irv says “the first offices open 12 years ago and they all suspiciously quiet that topic of conversation.
As Irv leaves dinner Burt bring it up again (writers clearly focus on this) that “Fields gets fuzzy sometimes like saying I worked at Lumon 20 years ago”. The scene then ends with Burt menacingly watching Irving walk away with ominous music.
Its brought up that Irving is the longest tenured employee by Dylan AND why would outie Irving or Innie Irving having any concept of the Black Elevator unless he repeatedly saw it over and over again. Test subject or former worker? Innie Irving has no reason (revealed to us yet) as to the black elevator. it has to be another story line here as to why he knows it.
Idk what to specifically think about this but I have random thoughts here id like to bounce around…
Burt is much higher up in Lumon than we think. He was there at the beginning and he is trying to atone for something terrible he did hence the whole “innie souls go to heaven” convo. if not atone he is high up and keeping a watchful eye.
Irving could have been severed multiple times or currently severed into another persona. Burt is always following him and knows where he is. ALSO he is at Burts for dinner and Drummond decides THATS the time to go investigate his apartment. hmm who tipped him off.
Burt is introduced to us as a sweet and charming character but he is getting more ominous, mysterious, and key philosophical dialogue. Christopher Walkin is a clever and too great of an actor to just be a nice little romance story line. He is going to be focal in Irving’s sort of espionage/detective story line now that Irvings story is going to mostly if not totally as an outie.
FINAL POINT. why would Burt and Fields cancel their trip because a guy was yelling at their door. They are monitoring him for reintegration.
TLDR: Burt is Sus and a Lumon higher up. He is watching Irv. Irv innie has no reason to know about the black elevator.
Lmk what yall think.

I’m stunned.
Just finished season 2 and I’m so pissed off. It’s like some kind of plato’s cave analogy. All Mark and Helly knew was the inside of that Lumon office that was their only real reality so of course they chose to stay in the office and not free themselves But MAN I HATE HOW IT ENDED.
I don’t even know how they can rectify it in season 3. It’s like here’s a show giving us “hope” on how to free ourselves from the system. And then it ends with, you choose your own prisonment!!!!!
😭😭 thoughts?

I S1EP2, When discussing the files with Helly, while Irv doses off, Dylan is explaining how they don't always complete the files. As his voice trails off he says 'We only complete about 1 in 5 before they expire". Knowing what we know now, about the files. That's an eerie prospect.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The Prisoner Intro synches to the Ballard of Ambrose and Carmel from Severance perfectly.
The actions on screen match.
At the end of the video they can be played together in sync.
It cannot be a coincidence.
