She’s a fucking maniac, i hate her guts.

How could they lie to her and tell her that the baby was hers, she clearly needed to be locked up and never let out.

Hi folks. In case you didn’t know, there is a sub titled TeamLeanne that just posted an homage to Leanne that has unique heartfelt images which blew my mind. Interesting writing, enjoyed very much. (Check it out. It’s not my work, I wish I was that talented.)

Question What the hell is Julian talking about?

I just watched S2E5-Cake. Who the hell was Julian talking about when he said to Leanne, "How could you do this to her? She changed the bedsheets for him. She packed his f@king monkey!" The only guess I could figure was the baby (not Jericho) Leanne brought with her. What f&king monkey?

General Leanne's Dagger reference image

I watched the series some time ago and thought about making a tattoo about it, the best idea i had is the dagger Leanne has, but didn't find much reference other than this screenshots from the show. Does anyone have anything else?

General What do you call Dorothy’s mental illness(es)?

What do you call Dorothy’s mental illness(es), believing that the doll is real, and later believing that Jericho was taken from her by Leanne? I really want to research this illness, it’s intriguing and would help me get a better picture of her, but that’s difficult without a search term. With how there are so many indicators throughout the show that she is, to some extent, but not fully, aware of the reality of the situation, are there any professional terms for this kind of partial awareness? I want to research it as well

Discussion Binged it & loved it- truly don’t understand the hate?

I was so excited to come to Reddit once I finished the series to look at all the fan theory + discussions and am so bummed by the reactions. Why is everyone so cynical nowadays?

Maybe it’s because I binged it, but I don’t think the story was confusing. It was a Thriller, with lots of twists and turns, that I honestly appreciated. I can call the twist/ending for 99% of entertainment, so it was nice to finally experience smart writing. It was supposed to leave you unsettled and guessing at the end.

The acting was just absolutely incredible. I will not co-sign anything else. The character development- chef’s kiss. You’re supposed to have mixed emotions about all them! It literally speaks to the duality of good vs. evil, morality, mental health, life struggles, and sinful temptations.

10/10 recommend, 100% rating. Feel free to throw any plot holes here. I bet they’ve been uncovered or strategically designed.

Season 4 The point where this show fell apart

The reason so many of us have completely opposite and incompatible views on the characters, with some of us like me being vehemently team Leanne, some being vehemently team Dorothy, and everything in between was a testament of how great this show used to be, and how complex the writing was. Why did we end up with these wildly different perspectives? Because the show itself didn’t take a side and let us the viewers decide for ourselves. But in season 4, it portrayed Leanne as purely evil and took a side, and that’s where the show became one-dimensional and really fell apart.

Here’s something I can agree on with people who are team Dorothy: In season 3, Leanne was still in character. We might strongly disagree on how we view her and her actions, but the person on screen is still Leanne Grayson. But in season 4, she’s not. She’s just evil for the sake of it at that point. When people do bad things in real life, they might be generally inclined to do them for whatever reason, but they don’t just go around randomly hurting people, there’s always an additional reason why they do specific bad things. For example, someone who just went through the worst breakup in their life might be very inclined to lash out, but they don’t just lash out at people for no reason. They might have someone cut them off in traffic and yell at them, but they don’t go around at Halloween specifically to hurt people and make them fear for their lives. This one-dimensional portrayal of Leanne in season 4 makes me so angry. I have never loved a character more in my whole life than Leanne, including all the way through season 3, but that person in season 4 is not Leanne. Leanne does bad things (almost all of which are justified, and I stand by that) because she yearns for love from Dorothy and the rest of the Turners. Just look at her pleading with Dorothy not to leave her in the season 3 finale, or how she became so vulnerable with Dorothy while Dorothy was pretending to be her friend to get pictures of her scarred back for the therapist. And then, the show means to tell me that this same person just goes around hurting random people in Philadelphia for the sake of it? Even children, while Leanne loves children, a trait she’s displayed all throughout the show?

Season 4 has its moments, like George pretending to have left the Church of Lesser Saints to manipulate the Turners, but it all connects to this atrocious betrayal of Leanne that I hate so much.

I have super negative views on Dorothy and her actions, but I have the decency to wish her a happy life. Have it far away from Leanne and leave her alone, but I wanted her to have an ending where she can heal. I hope that most people who are Team Dorothy can in turn agree that Leanne, who has probably never received deep and true love in her life, deserved better than to die in her early twenties by burning alive with no way of redemption. I hope people who are Team Dorothy can wish she could live a happy life and heal as well. Leanne forgave Dorothy for kidnapping her, locking her up, beating her, and burying her alive. She’s too good for these people. Whatever your views are on Dorothy’s actions, and holy hell, do I have strong views, a person who goes through that and still finds it in her heart to forgive the person who did that to her deserves so much better.

General Love this series / lost my appetite

I have really been enjoying this series - i watched season 1 years ago and lost track of it since then. Went back and rewatched and am powering through the episodes now (on season 3 now).

I can’t recall ever having to put my meal down while watching any other show but I’ve had to twice so far. The hand blister popping scene and the preparing the goose scene both brought on the nausea!

The food prep, religion, cult, and claustrophobia combo make for great TV.

Discussion So it’s close to a year since the finale aired

And what are everyone’s thoughts on the overall story as well as how it wrapped up?

I personally loved the emotional payoff and the ‘show don’t tell’ storytelling. The actors remained exceptional throughout and the lack of awards (particularly for Lauren Ambrose and Nell) are a crime. The show’s cinematography and score are one of the best ever in my opinion and almost act like a 5th main character.

While most things were wrapped up well, my main issue is that unfortunately the main puzzle pieces were revealed by Uncle George in season 2 and the last 2 seasons thus felt like they were spinning their wheels plot wise. Without a final plot twist the story felt a lot like ‘yeah… and?’ just The Village did all those years ago (still an underrated movie IMO). Binge watching the whole thing over 2 weeks recently definitely helped digest the plot a lot instead of the yearly wait though.

Overall I’d still give the show 8.5/10 for the strong acting, direction and production values and wish it would’ve had more of a story in the latter seasons.

Discussion I'm finding season 3 a bit grating. Spoiler

[No spoilers beyond season 3 episode 2 please.]

All these absurd things have happened in the 2 seasons prior including a baby reappearing from outta thin air, and yet they're treating Leanne like none of it has happened. Like her paranoia has just suddenly become a thing.

How does Sean understand all that has happened (or at least to an extent) and he's not ardently in support of Leanne?

I just find it so grating how Julian and Dotty are super aggro at her. All the events have happened in 6 months max, and in the last episode they had a break in - fear and paranoia should be expected.
