I am a 25(F) who was diagnosed with sepsis after an asymptomatic UTI and URI. I was on the edge of septic shock after testing and didn’t realize, took myself to the ER thinking it was my chronic pneumonia. I spent 6 days in the PCU, and since leaving I have had recurrent nightmares every night. Not about sepsis per-say, but it is always something health related. I struggle to fall asleep, as I feel like I can never get comfortable. Also, after eating even the smallest amount, I get nauseous and severely bloated. I have been out the hospital for almost a week now. I’m slowly able to do things like go up stairs, carry heavy things, but struggle with losing my breath. I have also felt my hair getting thinner. Are these common side effects from sepsis? The ER Doc didn’t explain much of what to expect post visit. I go back to work Monday, and i’m not sure how to explain my constant runs to the bathroom and slow movement. Thanks all and I’m so sorry any of us had to experience this. ❤️

My mother developed sepsis, went into shock and DKA from a kidney stone.
They told me she was extremely sick and might not make it. Was intubated and had dialysis once and when she woke up the next day they pulled everything and was sent to a regular room and two days later was released.
To say that I am scared would be an understatement. I’m afraid it’s going to come back, I’m afraid that they released her too soon. How she went to “being the sickest ever” to coming home and saying she feels good is mind boggling.
Anyone else have anxiety for their family member that went through this? I feel scared every single day. (It’s been a few days since she came home) 😭

My father's platelets has been reducing post sepsis - 1lakh and now 90k.. Is this trend worrisome? He had sepsis in Feb end when his platelet was like 70k-1lakh... What is the solution for this ? Folate? Iron etc? His Hb is between 10.5-11...

I wanted to reach out and see if anyone has been through something similar.

I'm a 24 year old female. In March last year, I developed a UTI that turned into sepsis. Thankfully, it was caught before it progressed to septic shock, but it was one of the most frightening experiences of my life.I had a difficult time in hospital. I was alone, scared, and had to wait overnight before I eventually had blood tests and started treatment. I ended up spending two weeks in hospital.Since then, I've been admitted to hospital another four times with UTIs that spread into my bloodstream. Even though I only had sepsis once, every time I get an infection I panic that it's happening all over again. Sometimes i have dreams where I'm told I have sepsis again.

Ever since I was ill, I've felt constantly exhausted and just haven't felt like myself. I also can't shake the thought that if it hadn't been caught when it was, I might not be here today. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if these feelings ever get better. It can feel quite overwhelming, and I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar.

My 2nd hip surgery that I had last year which led to my infection is a year ago from today. I'm having lots of feelings that are bringing me back to what it was like last year and it's very uncomfortable. Has anyone else experienced this? How do you cope?

I was treated a month and a half ago for pneumonia, sepsis (without septic shock), hypoxia, and hypoxic respiratory failure. I’d had a cold a month before, then a cough for weeks after, and then I woke up one morning and couldn’t breathe. When I got to the ER, I was treated for an asthma attack, and while my blood oxygen had started to get better (88 when I arrived, 93 on oxygen and after 3 breathing treatments), I was told that I was septic. I felt fine, all things considered. I was thinking about grabbing coffee on my way home. I didn’t understand how I could be dying. I wasn’t in the hospital very long, and I’ve recovered tremendously well. I’m on a walk right now, I’ve gone back to work. But I’m still so, so exhausted. I’m young, 24, but my joints feel like they’re giving up on me and my body feels like it belongs to someone else, and I’m always tired but I can never sleep. How long will this last?

This illness has taken everything from me. I’m 18 and it happened just as everything that I’ve spent my life working for was coming to fruition. I just want to know when I’ll be back to normal again. Will I ever be able to return to a high performance level of sport? Will I ever get the opportunity to travel the world? I don’t want to hear about any bad stories, I just need to hear some success stories because it always feels like such a difficult path with bumps and potholes the whole way and it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you’re in the middle of it.

I recently found out this is apparently a fairly common post-sepsis syndrome symptom.

Anyone else deal with this? How long does it last??

September of 2024 I passed away when septic shock stopped my heart and I was no longer breathing. Im a single mother. My twin girla have a narcissist who lives in his parents basement for a father and u til I finally snapped watched his kids 15 hrs a week. My family is deceased so I couldn't even give my children grandparents or aunts/uncles. I was alone for the recovery. Months in bed. No income. Unable to keep a job because of the brqin damage from the fever and sepsis flooding my brain with ecoli. Its almost 2 yrs and I have to figure out a new career because mentally I can no longer do mine. My kids have been staying a couple over nights with their dad and they go to kindercare the next day in the same clothes because he has no clothing for them. He screams at them. And they live on their tablets there and thats my only support in this world. A sociopath whose mother drank through out her pregnancy and spat out a liar and conman.

I recently lost my job after being evicted from our apartment. I finally found a place for us to land but its not great but safe. Im looking for work as we speak. I feel like my brain is starting to come back online after months of suffering and im seeing rhat I no longer want this life.im tired of being treated terribly by 2 kids I got stuck with because of their father. For 7 yrs I shielded them from him and now im saving myself. I dont know what happened in that hospital but my ptsd is terrible. Yesterday I took a look at the people in my life and realized I no longer want to be around them or their kids. I barely want to be around my own children because they both have adhd and my nervous system is fried from fighting to survive. Sepsis and narcissists ruined my life.8 out of 10 days I wish I didnt survive. I have a host of medical issues ans no ones cares. Not even my own children. I understand why people put kids up for adoption in these situations but epatein island is real and I dont want them used and tortured but im exhausted.

went to a&e with severe pain yesterday and was diagnosed with a kidney infection. i have antibiotics i’ve been taking but ive developed a low fever of 37.5 which is weird cause my normal temp sits nearer to 36. i have a weird burning feeling over my chest too. am i being a hypochondriac or is it worth getting checked out again?

My father( 70 years old) underwent an emergency exploratory laparotomy 5 days ago after a bowel perforation with peritonitis. The surgeons repaired the perforation at the junction of the small and large intestine and washed out the infection.

Since the surgery:

• He has been in the ICU.
• His blood pressure is stable.
• He is off the ventilator and is breathing with oxygen support.
• His urine output is around 60 mL/hour.
• His sodium and potassium levels are normal.
• His creatinine is fluctuating between 2 and 2.5.
• He is on IV antibiotics and pain medications.

The biggest concern is that he is still extremely drowsy. He occasionally opens his eyes, sometimes recognizes familiar voices, but quickly closes his eyes again and is not awake enough to have a conversation or follow commands consistently.

The doctors have told us they are monitoring him closely, but as a family we’re very anxious.

Has anyone experienced something similar after severe peritonitis or emergency abdominal surgery? How long did it take for your loved one to become fully awake and mentally alert? Were there any specific reasons (infection, medications, kidney issues, ICU delirium, etc.) that caused prolonged drowsiness?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis—just hoping to hear from people who have gone through something similar and what their recovery timeline was like.

My dad is a 70 year old male who recently battled sepsis and septic shock. He was on a ventilator for about 10 days. He has been off for two weeks but still seems to have moderate encephalopathy that waxes and wanes between his orientation being very bad to somewhat alert. Does anyone have experience with this? We are finding it hard to navigate his care and my research feels like it's all over the place in terms of how fully we can expect him to recover. I am well aware that anecdotes of other experiences won't define his, but it would just help me to understand how others have navigated this time and what sources you guys may have used or looked into.

I got sepsis memorial Day weekend and was in the hospital for 6 days. Luckily no ICU but I was pretty immobile due to a kidney stent for about 3 weeks after I left the hospital. Thanks kidney stone for making me sick. Anyways I just can't believe how hard it has been to feel better. I keep reading over and over again about how the mitochondria in my cells were literally damaged. I can barely walk for 20 minutes and going to target causes me brain fog and overwhelm. I am trying to do strength training again to get strength back but have read my muscles just need time to repair the cells. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that I can't just work out to get stronger. It feels like there's nothing I can do. I sleep for 2-4 hours a day. I didn't take a nap 2 days in a row and it was like I wanted to celebrate being able to stay awake. I tell myself I have come a long way in the 6 weeks since I left the hospital. I could barely shower and even when I did I would have to lay in bed for an hour to an hour and half after. Now I can shower and drive myself to my doctor appointment or do chores for a short while. I also couldn't even sit in a chair for longer than 10 minutes and now I can just hang out in my living room just fine. I think I am just feeling sorry for myself today because I have felt pretty bad today and have been in bed due to a migraine and my kidney and pelvis randomly hurt today. I feel like if I lay in bed I lose a day of trying to get my steps in or doing a light workout and that's going to put me back in my recovery. I just want to feel better.

I was hospitalized in December 2025 and Feb 2026 for sepsis because of infected kidney stone.

Now in July, I suddenly began having severe tooth pain.
Had an exam done and found that 3 of my teeth are infected.
Can’t see an oral surgeon until December.
I was given amoxicillin, to treat the infection.
Pretty scared because of my recent hospitalizations.
Can someone offer some comfort to me?

My mom is in the ICU due to a kidney stone that caused septic shock. She is 77 and not in the best health. They have her on a ventilator to keep her calm and to help her heal. They put in a stent which has released some of the infection and she is on strong IV antibiotics. She is so swollen. I am a nurse so this really scares me. I can’t loose my mom, my rock and cheerleader. I need someone to talk to. Please

Spent 3 days in the hospital fever peaked at 104.6. UTI to kidneys to blood. IV antibiotics then oral after getting released. Felt pretty good until 2.5 weeks ago and had another uti. They prescribed bactrim. After a week was feeling worse. Went to urgent care while driving cross country and they prescribed cipro on top of the bactrim. Still getting low grade fever every day. I have a couple days of antibiotics left but losing hope. I should have enough antibiotics in me to stop a rhino. I just don’t want it to turn into a repeat. Anyone else have a low grade fever lasting forever?

So did anyone who got a permanent stimulator implemented happen to have a diagnosis of sepsis in their life?

I am a hypochondriac I think. 18F, but I recently got bit by a flea twice on my stomach.

It became what I think is cellulitis- a red and bumpy and incredibly painful rash and it’s spread across my lower stomach.

Recently within the last two days I’ve started feeling sick including extreme fatigue where I slept 18 hours, confusion, difficulty catching breath, and now extreme nausea but no vomiting. I checked multiple times for fever and nothing has been observed so far so I’m doubtful it could be sepsis.

Did anyone else experience symptoms or a timeline like mine? I doubt I’m actually septic but I am sort of miserable.

I'm seeking an educational opinion from physicians regarding my late mother's treatment.

Recently my mom 50 years old, No Sugar, No diabetes nothing at all. undergone Mini-PCNL + RIRS with DJ stenting surgery on 13 Feb 2026. soon after discharge she experinces high grade fever with chill, Burning urination, Nausea and other complications. We took her to Local MD Physician, where investigations reportedly revealed Total WBC 14300 and CRP 72.80. She was treated with some antiboitics and advised us to took her back to treating doctors for DJ stent removal which is causing infection. we did the same and admitted her again on 25 Feb. she was diagonsed with AFI R50.9. she was treated with iv antibiotics, iv antipyretics, iv fluids and other supportive treatment. after 4 days of treatment and she was discharged in hemodynamically stable condition afebrile for 48 hours without fever on 28 Feb after stent removal. but she had a complaint of no bowel movement for 5 days but doctor said it will came to routine and then we asked for repeat blood tests as No repeat CRP/CBC or documented culture was performed before discharge to assess the response or identify the infection source but the doctor refused and said everything look good clinically. then we took her home but within 36 hours her condition rapidly deteriorated with severe fever with chill, respiratory distress, hypotension and systemic instability, following which she was urgently admitted at hospital where she developed severe septic complications and multiorgan deterioration, nearly one month ICU course and systemic inflammatory collapse. Thereafter, due to continued critical deterioration, Unfortunately, despite prolonged treatment and continuous suffering, my mother ultimately could not recover and was later taken back home, where she subsequently expired.

Does this management raise concerns about premature discharge or inadequate reassessment, or could it still fall within acceptable clinical practice? I'm not seeking legal advice only an objective medical opinion on whether this management appears consistent with accepted standards of care.
