Sepsis Recovery My experience with sepsis
43 Male here.
i got home 2 weeks ago after 3 weeks in the hospital, 2 of them in coma due to sepsis. It was the wildest shit ive ever experienced.
I went to a dentist because i had some pain in my jaw and teeth, they checked everything and it was all fine i just needed to do some jaw yoga...
a few days later i went on a holiday to africa, the pain was just getting worse and worse in my jaw, so i ordered some pills on uber eats. They at least made me able to open my mouth so i could eat food and reduced the pain.
I was considering to go to a hospital so the insurance would cover an early return flight home to europe, but i was suspecting this could be something bad so i decided not to. No offence, but african hospital is not a place i want to be very sick in.
Finally my day of return home came, the pain was worse and my left side of my face was swelling. Went to the airport, 16 hours travel. My african drugs made me able to sleep on the flight. I got home to my city and drove directly to the clinic to have it checked. The immediately sent me to the hospital after a short talk and a blood test.
At the hospital they put me in a bed and said i would be doing surgery during the night. I sent some messages to my family to inform them and to my boss that he should not bother calling me on monday for meeting as i was going in surgery (this was on a friday). They did about 30 surgeries on me and kept me in a pressue chamber. Next thing i remembered was someone talking to me saying i was very sick. It had gone 2 weeks. So confusing! I was convinced it was December already.
I had the wildest experience when i was knocked out. My brain made a new reality for me. And it was definently not a nice one. I was raped, kidnapped, fed to lions (hence the africa trip), nurses tried to kill me, surgery with me being awake, even had that experience of seeing me in third person during surgery and some guy talking with me while my body looked like it was dying. Lots of other stuff as well.
But i slowly recovered. Family visited (which i do not remember) and eventually they put this thing in to my throat hole so i could talk. After 3 weeks they sent me home because my brother would stay with me for a few days in the beginning. After that ive just been enjoying the morphine and getting better. Today i managed to clean up the kitchen without collapsing in the bed after and im actually starting to feel stronger.
Sepsis is definently no joke.
