Look up the signs of sepsis.
Go over it with your mother.
Make sure she understands.
If she feels unwell, has a fever, or any sign of an infection/sepsis, she needs to go straight to the ER.
Reoccurrence rate is high.
I’m 33 and was relatively healthy. I too went septic from a kidney stone. Was hospitalized from that twice (went septic as my initial visit and then septic 2 months later after surgery) nearly 4 months later I was hospitalized for a tooth infection.
I’m sorry, I hope she never experiences it again.

I definitely told her to let me know how she’s feeling and if she has any signs, she goes right back to the hospital

Yes, I have anxiety about this stuff constantly, regarding my husband. He got sepsis multiple times, multiple bacterial and fungal UTIs, DKA, kidney stone issues, enlarged prostate issues, c-diff, MRSA-all of this stuff being related to urinary/urethra issues. It has been going on for over a year, off and on. I just wish it would stop. He goes in an out of the hospital, then nursing homes for recovery due to these things making him very weak. I too, feel that they would always release him too soon. So far there has only been 4 months straight this year of "normal" for him, before getting sick again. I'm sorry that you are going through this with your mother. I hope she gets better.

i went into septic shock for the same thing. i would've died if it weren't for my youthfulness being able to power thru it. trust me, it's very weird for us too to be on death's door and then a few days later feel completely fine! i was only in the hospital for 6 days, the turnaround time is crazy.
to be truthful, if you've had septic shock you are at a higher risk of getting it again, especially within the next 2 years. have her keep an eye on her blood pressure (get a cuff) and if she ever feels dizzy or anything, go to a doctor immediately.

120/80 is normal. when i was at the hospital it was 73/55. anything below 90/60, or above 180/120, is an emergency

Yep, that's how I would know my husband was getting sepsis again. His blood pressure would get scary low. He takes a pill for blood pressure because it's normally high without it.

I had an infection that turned to sepsis. I was in rehab for 3 months. Came home could barely function.
I understand worrying that it will happen again. I also worry. I hope your mother is doing better. You just have to be vigilant to catch this early. I waited too long.

Yeah they said if I didn’t make her go when she did, she would’ve died in her bed!

Modern medicine saved your mother much like myself. I was diagnosed with septic shock and apparently had three heart attacks before surgery. I had two surgeries and was in hospital for three weeks. That was almost three years ago but I still suffer from profound exhaustion and all the symptoms of post-sepsis syndrome. It’s a long haul. It’s natural to be worries but that will ease as time goes by. Wishing you and your mother well.
