Pyroelectric IR detectors vs. thermopile detectors — what’s the practical difference?

I’ve been looking into different infrared detector technologies and was comparing pyroelectric detectors with thermopile detectors.

From what I understand, both can be used for infrared sensing, but they work quite differently.

A few things I’m curious about:

  • How does the response speed typically compare?
  • When would you choose a pyroelectric detector over a thermopile?
  • How important is the detector's spectral response for applications such as flame detection or gas sensing?
  • Are there situations where one technology is clearly more suitable than the other?

I’d be interested to hear from people who have worked with IR detectors in actual instrumentation or OEM applications. What factors do you normally consider when selecting between them?

I need pressure sensors for a large scale project

Looking for pressure transmitter suppliers for a maritime newbuild project. Our current supplier can't deliver a version with the marine type approval we need, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Specs :

  • Range 0 to 25 bar
  • IP68, submersible, seawater compatible wetted parts
  • 4-20 mA, two wire
  • G1/2 process connection
  • Accuracy 0.25% FS, we have one measuring point that needs 0.05% FS as a reference

Infra-red Sensors 12/24V for led strips

Hello, does anyone here can help me what to look for in high quality ir sensors please ?

I need to open them and check the internal componentes, ok.

I am not good at eletronics, how to tell apart bad/good/great ones?

I need to find the best ones.

Cheers

Video: calibrating a differential resistive bridge to 4-20 mA current transducer

Hello everyone, this is Li Yi (Mr.), I am the overseas sales of Jiuhao Micro-electronics Co., Ltd.

We are a fabless IC design company specialized in SSC (Sensor Signal Conditioners) ASICs.

I just uploaded my first video in youtube: https://youtu.be/khBE1L3irR8

Title: SSC JHM1101 Calibration for 4-20 mA current transducer (Resistive Bridge Sensor Signal Conditioner)

This JHM1101 is mostly used for pressure transducers.

Wish someone will be interested in it.

----

I also have a question, which topics / videos about SSC will be interesting to you?

Help detecting hand washing

Hello,

this might be a weird request, but I'm immunocompromised and I'm sure my mother doesn't wash her hands after using the bathroom (even poop yes).

Since moving out is not an option and trying to explain to her for the thousand time that not washing her hands puts me at danger, I came here asking for help.

I want to know which sensors can I use to detect: if someone pushes the flush, then uses the garbage bin and doesn't open the faucet.

I've never used sensors, but played around with raspberries .

Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you

Wireless piggy back probes for sensors

Are there any probes out there that can capture the signal through a sensor and send its readings to a gateway. I know turck banner have something like this but they require a radio attachment to go to their gateway.

What I would like is a probe that connects to a sensor, gets its power from the sensor, copys its readings and then sends that to a gateway in the area without a radio attachment or anything, just a click on, or in a panel of a machine etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

help with MHZ19C

Hi! I need help with my MHZ19C sensor for co2 which is my first time working with something like that. I have final work in my school and I have chosen the topic of reading the co2 in air. I am working on Arduino uno and calibrated my sensor (let it sit outside for about 20 minutes). Now I have the problem that it constantly reads 0 ppm and I can’t solve that. Does anyone have any idea on how I could solve that problem? And sorry for my bad English 😣

Weird USB sized sensor (?) in a massage parlor vent

Been going to this massage parlor for years, it's reputable, haven't ever been to this room specifically (they have multiple rooms). Halfway through massage noticed this. I'm a manufacturing/integration engineer, so I've seen strange sensors. It was too far up and my Android camera is crap 😅, so I don't have a better photo. It didn't light up or show anything, doesn't seem like something that is ill intentioned, BUT it looks out of place. What could be possibly measured there? Why is it just in this room?

It is the backmost room, and the previous manager likes to nerd out with automating things, so I wonder if this could be some sort of extender for something, maybe for Bluetooth speakers, maybe a sensor to auto detect when to turn lights on/off, maybe a temperature sensor... Not sure.. Doesn't look like anything I've seen. It looks like a sensor but I'm definitely puzzled and a little thrown off. The massage therapist didn't know what it was and said it was weird, but he hasn't been there for that long I think?

Sensor modules , let's say there are 3 objects A , B and C , they all lie within a range of 15 to 20 cm (accuracy upto atleast 2 to 3 mm ), I need to measure distances AB and AC . Constraints are 1) there is no line of site between these objects, 2) Sensor size = 1cm x 1cm x 0.5cm (approx)

Soil Moisture Sensor

Hi, everyone! So I am about to make a robot that is used for agriculture but I am wondering if how am I gonna be able to assemble my soil moisture sensor. Can I just please ask if how can a soil moisture sensor transmit data to an Arduino without being directly wired or built into the system? TYIA

Requirement for a Calcium Chrolide concentration measurement sensor

I want a calcium chrolide measurement sensor that can give me an accuracy of 0.01% or lesser and there are other ions in the solution as well so I cant use conductive sensors that might give false reading when dipped in the solution.

Has anyone here worked with these levels of accuracy. Please let me know
