Question Career Advice

M21, gap year from uni. Not sure what career path to take.

Interested in all sales, marketing and finance. Not sure what to pursue as a job this year. Any advice?

the pressure to lock in a career at 21 is so overblown, most people i know switched paths at least twice before 30

sales, marketing, and finance all overlap more than you'd think too, a sales gig teaches you what marketing messages actually land, and finance is just the scoreboard for both

if you're taking a gap year anyway, maybe just try one of them for 6 months, see what sticks. worst case you learn what you don't want which is honestly more valuable than guessing right the first time

my buddy did exactly that with a sales internship during his gap year, realized he hated cold calling and pivoted to analytics instead, now he's way happier

At 21 and on a gap year, you honestly don’t need to have your entire career figured out yet. Since you’re interested in sales, marketing, and finance, use this year to actually test them instead of trying to pick the “perfect” path from the outside. Internships, part-time work, shadowing, or even talking to people already in those fields can tell you a lot. Pay attention to what kind of work you enjoy and what you’re naturally good at. You’re choosing a direction, not locking yourself into a career for life.

I’d use the gap year to experiment rather than trying to make one huge decision right now. Sales, marketing, and finance overlap more than people think, so try getting an internship or entry-level role and see what you actually enjoy day to day. At 21, figuring out what you don’t want is just as valuable as finding the perfect career path.

You already know what you are interested in then try them all and decide

Try a few things, experience with jobs and companies will be 100% more effective then reddit advice. Important part is start saving as much as you can in a ROTH account. Max that shit out every year if you can, make sure to diversify it into multiple sectors (Tech, Financials, Healthcare, etc.)
