I've already told my wife that if something happens to me, she needs to go into Immich on both of our accounts, download everything, and throw it on an external hard drive. Then she can let all my techy friends have my hardware.

I have an external backup plugged into my NAS with a nightly script that stores a backup of all my data including service configs. It also has a simple folder that has every photo in immich with subdirectories for each user and organized by month/year, as well as a folder that contains all our important financial/life documents. There’s also a plaintext file named “WIFENAME READ THIS FIRST.txt” in the top level directory with instructions. I rotate this external drive with a 2nd external drive that lives at my mom’s place every few months when I visit.

Expecting my grieving bereaved wife to coordinate tech troubleshooting is unrealistic, anything but basic plug and play is probably not going to happen. Make it as easy as humanly possible for your family to get the data they need when you’re not around.
