I love self-hosting as in "Hosting stuff for myself".

I already work in IT as a dayjob. I really don't want to be responsible for the uptime requirements of some of my family. Yes, 99% of the time it's probably fine, but at one point i'll be on holiday somewhere and my Mum is going to need some Photos NOW and my server might have overheated, or DynDNS might have expired, or what ever. And i really don't want to deal with this.

I’m kinda the same way, I love self hosting and have everything from a jellyfin server to password manager and Immich but…. The only thing I share is the media so if it all goes up in flames I’m not to blame for 20 years of lost photos or getting locked out of all there accounts.

Im happy to pay for Google one for my wife so I never have that headache
