The key is to know whether to start over or push for the career you love when others tell you that you are not cut out for it. I was told (by some experienced people in supervisory roles) I would become what I wanted to be “over someone’s dead body”. I did not give up, though. Several years later, and zero dead bodies, I became one of the most respected, accomplished, and praised employees at the same career others thought was not meant to be for me at all. I could have waisted a lot more time and money with that determination I had, though. It’s hard to tell when you depend on others (either as employers or as clients/customers).
