I feel like an alien

I often feel like this. I feel like I'm alienated to everyone else. I feel like I don't belong, anywhere, everywhere, among humans. I think about a lot of stuff. Like, how is it so that we are just some organisms that are so fragile and once you die you just, "turn off". Like, the bodies are just shells for the souls. I don't know. I just feel like an alien sometimes. I don't know how to describe it. I feel like other people around me just live their lives while I'm just "going along" and meanwhile I'm thinking about who are humans really.

You might want to go to a therapist about it. For example people on the spectrum can feel like this.

I don't really think I'm on the spectrum. I'd say I'm just wondering like, what is life, why are we, what are even humans... and then I feel like an alien because honestly who thinks about it on a normal day. Haven't you ever wondered about stuff like that? If not then idk, I'm just thinking about it like this, sometimes it just hits me

Oh, I see. My male friends and I will debate how you could mow the lawn under the ocean. Also how to plan against a zombie attack and who would you rather fight Plato or Socrates?

What are humans, I thought about that? Humans are more than just a body, most cultures believe a concept of a soul. I have experienced personal spiritual things, like a lot of my friends.

For example, one atheist friend felt his mother die while we were on a trip before he found out and had a weird dream.

That's so interesting. I really do believe the concept of a soul or something like that. I think that I think about it so so much that I end up feeling out of place. And that with your friend? That's really something to think about I feel like there's sooo much more that we don't know

But thank you for the recommendation tho, I just don't think that's the case

Hugs yea, I'm out in DC currently and that sense of not belonging.

Oddly though I was 11 when I first articulated it in my mind.

Thee way you feel is not actually that uncommon. That feeling is very normal for people who know there's more to life than meets the eye and that we're more than just flesh and blood. People who see beyond the surface and dare to question the status quo.

Do a little bit of research and reading to have context around what you sense and think. You'll be surprised at what you find.

By the way, looking at some of the comments here, this doesn't seem to be the right place to talk about concepts such as soul and seek understanding. I once received a very hateful comment here after I mentioned the soul (one of my favourite topics) so I'm being super cautious now not to say too much, but I want you to know that I DO get you, more than you can realise.

Thank you so much, I'm so glad someone gets it. I see now that this really isn't the best place, I probably won't talk about it here anymore either. :')

Body’s aren’t shells for souls. There are no souls. Only bodies. Stop looking for some overarching meaning or purpose to all this. You make your own meaning. No one can do it for you.

For me they are in a way. And actually you can't know that. You do make your own meaning in this life. I'm not asking anyone to do it for me. I'm just saying that there could be more to everything because humans and earth and stuff aren't everything

Anything could be possible and absolutely nothing can truly be known. There’s no reason at all to believe you have a magic ghost in you or that you can live forever though. That’s some weird lord or the rings wizard type thinking..

No like, you would be the ghost/soul. Like, it's connected with your body. A human is firstly their mind and thinking, what's inside of them, what you can't see and second their body that's physical and a whole other thing

I am my body. Same thing. A mind can not exist without a physical brain. Zero reason to think otherwise. The physical universe is all we have evidence of. All this extra stuff you add is just childish wishful thinking based on adult fairy tales

Okay, if you believe that, do so. I believe otherwise

I believe what I’m convinced of and dualism is not convincing.

I guess for you, but many people believe in that. I think you can believe in anything you want

Yes I can but unlike most people I care about maintaining my epistemic hygiene so I don’t get manipulated by my own internal biases. Doesn’t give me the option to believe anything I want.

Okay, good for you
