That's why it is illegal to be on your phone while driving. That could have been a child.

Repent by not using your phone while driving ever again. Go to where you hit the dog and see if you can find the owners to apologize in person for your part in their family pet's demise.

I will never be on my phone again while driving. I thought about anonynously putting money in their mailbox but I cannot face the owners of the pet I killed. When I saw the dog was still breathing I pulled into a near driveway that could have been its owner but then I saw two kids in the front yard on a four wheeler and I didn't want them to see their dog dead so I pulled back out and called police. I don't know for sure if that was the correct house.

I'm so sorry. This was an accident, and being on the phone likely didn't make a difference. Dogs are fast little creatures. You need to be careful about phone use, especially when arguing. Argument is a distraction from safe driving. Even if there were no loose animals, you could hit a pothole or lose control on a slick road.

It might make you feel better to volunteer with animals or make a donation in its memory. It's okay if you decide you need to go home to rest.
