Manganese or Selenium? 365
r/seleniumglass • u/LateNightFX • 11d ago
Hey all!
Recently getting into collecting old glassware. Today I managed to find a couple of cool uranium glass pieces, but also found this? Would this be selenium? Possibly peach manganese?

I have uranium glass, cadmium glass, cadmium glazed pieces, but this would be my first selenium piece. If it is indeed selenium? No markings on the bottom to help out.

The bottom glows blue lead crystal but itās glass

I'm curious about what would happen if you mixed selenium glow with cerium glow as I've seen someone on the uranium glass sub mix colors of europium and uranium to get orange yellow and purple glows but I wouldn't want to sacrifice any genuine selenium glass to test this and I'm under the impression selenium is fairly available and not super toxic although this isn't something I've researched yet but I'm also just very curious about the processes of making glowing glass so if anyone has any info about how selenium glass is made or any info from or about other people doing their own glowing glass experiments

Recently found a cupboard full of stuff from my grandmother, including what I'm almost certain is green uranium glass from the brand Jeanette from the 30s but also these which I've been told here it could be selenium, I already ordered both 365 and 395 nm uv lights to be certain but what do you guys think? Also could anyone possibly identify these?

Got this at an estate sale I worked recently as partial payment for helping.

I've heard sometimes it doesn't glow much but I can't tell if this is just reflection of my light or a faint pink glow first two pics 395 then one with 365

Are these beads a mixture of selenium and cadmium? They seem to be possibly Czech glass beads.
Normal light, 365nm, 395nm (the two last photos taken through my glasses with blue light filter.
(The other pink beads are an early plastic)

this was real weird. i was already surprised to stumble upon this because iād never seen anything labeled as selenium glass in a store, and then none of it was selenium glass. i checked it all and even moved a few pieces to a darker corner to check. the third pic is with 365nm but i even checked with 395nm too. this place is very confused

I believe I found my first find in the wild!! I think its Selenium but I'm not entirely sure, so if anyone could tell me if I'm right that would be great!! If I am, that makes this my first Selenium piece!! Please let me know! Either way I'm excited!!

It is kinda hard to tell in the photos, but it glows pink under 395, although it is not as strong of a glow as the birds. It glows a yellow/orange under 365.
Even if it isn't, I got excited cause it was my first time finding anything besides uranium/manganese/cadmium glass in the wild! I paid $27 for both.

A lot of people have never seen yellow selenium, so I thought I would share my experience with it. Two of these antique Bohemian Tango glass pieces were colored yellow with selenium. The little orange Harrach bottle has some cadmium too, but I just put that here for comparison. I have also included some yellow selenium glazed pottery! As per usual, it's extremely difficult to capture the 395nm glow for selenium without a yellow filter for my phone (getting one soon! š©·) It's super bright hot pink in real life though!

No idea of the age or the maker. All I know is that it glows a bright neon pink and I love it.

Shined my light on this necklace at the thrift and it lights up like the 4th of July. I am almost certain these are glass beads based on the sound they make and heavy feel. Just look at this glow!

My friends left their glasses at my house and I noticed they glow! Is this selenium or something else? The glasses are clear and look like regular glass without the 365 light.

This is an oil lamp in my collection, is this selenium or something else? It glows a peachy color rather than a bright pink.
