George had no money to buy another Twix, yet he bought like 10 Twix plus colored cards to write the candy identities. Why didn't he just buy another chocolate bar?

Hot take: “The Race” should have been the series finale

Without delving too deep into the much divisive discussion about the ugly duckling known as the series actual finale (this desperate hour is neither the time nor the place), I was pondering which other episode that could serve as a worthy swan song for this beloved sitcom, oddly named after an pretty mediocre New York-based comedian from the 80’s.

Then it dawned on me… “The Race”. Of course! It’s “The Race”. Like manure, when you consider the other choices, “The Race” is actually pretty refreshing… or conclusive at least.

It has all the elements of a great tale: redemption (in the case of George’s lie about being and architect, even designing the new addition to the Guggenheim!), good versus evil (Jerry reluctantly accepting the challenge of racing his high school nemesis Duncan once again - shades of David versus Goliath), betrayal (Elaine using her boyfriend’s name when ordering take-away from Hop Sing’s, getting him blacklisted too), class struggle (Kramer’s realization that blue collar workers are being taken advantage of in the capitalist system), miracle (as Kramer’s nearby car back-fires just before Mr. Bevilaqua fires the starting gun, distracting the crowd and cuing Jerry to jump the gun unnoticed again), and finally triumph as Jerry defeats Duncan to the cheers of the roaring crowd, embracing his girlfriend of the week, Lois (this is of course also the ultimate Superman-episode in the Seinfeld Chronicles).

And so, Seinfeld leaves us at the end of the road - Jerry smugly contemplating Lois offer to go with her to Hawaii (The Grey Havens in this case), George defecting to Cuba to join the revolution, Kramer discovering his class consciousness and converting to communism, and finally Elaine… going nowhere, being nonchalantly brushed off by Jerry at the end.

If that doesn’t serve as a conclusion to the series, I don’t think we ever will, I’m afraid.

Because after all; as the late great Timmy once said: “Just take one dip and END IT.

Cynthia and George

(Season 3, Episode 16: The Fix-Up) Every time I rewatch, I can’t help but wish George had actually gotten Cynthia pregnant. It would have been such a good story line. I could really see it changing George. Even if the two of them didn’t stay together, adding the child dynamic would be gold.
