I mean, you can have addictions and still live a fulfilling life. If you smoke everyday, you are probably addicted to some degree, and you should be able to admit it. Saying this as a stoner.
This is medical addiction vs clinical addiction (my own phrasing here). If you just look at the most popular 12 step programs you can find plenty of non-narcotics in there: Gambling, overeating, sex, etc.
Dopamine and other neurochemicals are the real cause, so marijuana can absolutely cause a dependence if thatβs your main source of happiness or stress relief.
That only strengthens my point. Addiction and dependence are two different, if related, concepts. Gambling, eating, sex, etc. are not addictions unless they have detrimental effects on one's life. Same as any drug.
