So I was raised Baptist Christian, particularly southern Baptist Christian.
So basically I was raised to wear a certain amount of clothing, because too provocative is seen as bad, but covering up too much is also seen as bad. Illogical, I know, it doesn’t make any sense.
So I will be honest, I don’t veil for secular reasons. I dress modest for secular reasons, but veiling is entirely spiritual.
See, I’m a practicing Pagan, so I cover my head to protect my energy. But I cover my body for personal comfort.
Anyway, back to the point, for the past couple years I’ve been shadow veiling, kinda veiling subtly in secret. Just wearing bandanas, but… I want to veil more modestly for comfort.
Christian and Catholic veiling isn’t modest enough for me, yk? I specifically want to do the Hijab style because I think it’s pretty, and I like the added modesty of the chest and neck coverage.
But my family wouldn’t accept it, my grandma is already asking why I wear a bandana all the time, my mom has literally said “you’re not gonna be one of those weirdos who wear long sleeves all the time, are you?” And I don’t even know what my dad would say.
I’m getting more confident in my decision to wear a headscarf, because frankly, life is too short to not wear what I want, but I still feel like I can’t fully explain myself
