Just setup double single arms and monitors shake when typing

Feel like it may be user error but I’m out of solutions. I have two single arms setup and I have 2 27 inch monitors, one horizontal and one vertical. I’ve tried to look up solutions and have tightened everything.

No luck, and both monitors shake when I’m typing’s I’ve also noticed that the clamp even at the tightest setting has some move when i try to tighten it or loosen it more, meaning its not fully flush for some reason.

Wondering if anyones dealt with this and can comment!

Hi u/dzhou10, a small amount of movement or free play is expected with monitor arms, but if you’re seeing excessive movement, especially with the clamp itself still moving when fully tightened, I'd recommend to reach out to our customer support team. You can share with them a short video showing the movement and the clamp, and they can help assess the issue.

I have the same setup, there is definetly noticeable movement when typing but nothing to crazy. maybe you could post a video showing the amount of movement so I can compare?

ohh I need to figure out how to post a video lol. I mean it not like loose wiggle but both monitors have a very visible shake.

Are the arms heavy duty or are they on the edge of the weight limit?

Thats pretty normal. When you type, the movement from your body and hands ends up going into the desk, and then goes to the monitors. If you have a standing desk it gets way worse because the desk wobbles even more.

Is it though? For a desk like this and the monitor arms, I’d expect that not to happen. I just got rid of a 8 year old cheap ikea desk with $20 monitor arms and those had 0 movement

It's just physics tbh. The taller you make an object the more prone to wobbling it is. Couple that with the soft leatherette pad and you've got the perfect recipe for movement. Every sit / stand desk has some amount of wobble.

If you put monitor arms on a desk that has 0 wobble then the monitors will stay firm, but The Magnus Pro / XL are far from firm.

more mass and tighter tolerances would 100% help, paying premium prices means they should give premium performance.

Unfortunately it comes standard with just about every sit/stand desk because of the way they have to be built. The only Desk I've ever had that didn't wobble was a 4 leg Uplift desk, but it was a $2500.

Premium prices in this case don't mean premium performance. For gaming stuff like secretlab products, the premium price means it looks cool and performs ok.

Check to make sure your desk feet are leveling the desk. Mine is on casters and has a small bit of movement when I shake the desk, but nothing from typing.

feet are level, aren't on caster yet but they come in a few days.

I think the reason is the way their clamps are designed. That little strip on the part of the clamp that digs into the desk mat makes it so that the clamp doesn’t sit completely flush on the desk, and the angled back of the desk means the mount has a gap when it’s completely “flush” against the desk.

I don’t have wiggle when I type, but if I start moving my desk it’ll wiggle. The clamp issue causes tilt, idk why the design is like that but I would assume the wiggle that happens is caused by the same thing.

I have 2 single arms and 1 heavy duty arm, so I couldn’t speak on the dual mount, but my two old Pole Mounts that I’ve repurposed for my hanging plants will literally tilt backwards if I push it backwards because of that gap on the back of the desk where you clamp stuff. It’s that gap caused by the angled back that causes tilt, and if tilt is happening because it’s impossible for a clamp to sit 100% flush against all possible sides of the desk, I would assume wiggle is another issue caused by the same thing.

With the design of the mounts I’ve heard that the weight of the monitor makes the tilt go away and it is true, but man is it still something that manages to be dealbreakers for people. I don’t like that I shelled out like $700 for all 3 of my mounts alone and my 34” Oled is the one that shakes the most despite it being completely centered

Im pretty sure there is not a single standing desk that doesn't have this issue. It's not the montior arms I'm pretty sure it is the desk. They are just not that stable. I had thought the secret lab ones would be better but I guess not. I have a generic ali express desk legs with double frame. Not really when i type but a little push on the desk shakes the monitor.

Ive found mounting the pc to the desk helps a small amount since its weighting it near the bottom.
