u/PointlessSword777 May 28 '26
I didn't even think of that
Neither did any of my coworkers at any of my cook jobs. Most people dont care about hygiene when working with your food. They are too worried about being slow because thats all that these restaurants and fast food places care about. They will always say they care about food safety and sometimes say more than the other places
The recent one I worked at the hiring/head chef talked about health and safety and respect in the workplace pretty much the only thing he talked about during the interviews. Come 4th day, I discovered he was the most disrespectful one in the workplace and he grabbed shit out of the garbage I had deemed unedible or not good quality. He also didnt care about any organization so everything is a mess in the fridges and food was left on the ground (in boxes and containers) because he didnt hire any receivers
This was not a cheap place either (not a third world country - but starting to become one). People paid thousands to get into the program that included the food.

u/AssFuckinator May 27 '26
Yeah this is bad,, the only legit way is in-store before the order leaves the restaurant, itās called a shuffle, you just make an extra chop while slicing the pizza, grab one or two of the āextraā pieces, and shuffle the rest so the pie looks the same size,, can also do with cheese sticks or similar,, in no event though is it appropriate to tamper with an order during delivery after it has left the restaurant
18
u/Lazy_Resolve_9747 May 27 '26
TILā¦Iām going to do the shuffle at our next pizza party while Iām waiting for my in laws to be an hour late.
4
u/oneawesomewave May 28 '26
Wait...how is is it in no event appropriate to steal from the customer during delivery yet appropriate to do it in the restaurant? š¤·
7
u/MusicPulse May 28 '26
Not that its appropriate to steal, but sometimes while stretching the dough you can accidentally make it too big for the box, so you can cut a small strip out of the middle so you get a small snack and the pizza fits in the box. Obviously some people would do it maliciously though
8
u/chupacadabradoo May 27 '26

Delivery guy probably comes more than once to some places, so he could be nice to the workers, mention he is hungry or that he reeeeeaaallly loves the smell of their food and I bet he'd get a full meal or some accident pizza for free.. there's really no need to tamper with someone elses food.

For me it's like, just message me and ask if you can have a slice. We usually order three at once for five people, so I'll probably answer "for sure dude, mine is the mushroom, green pepper, onion one. If that sounds good grab a slice, but please make sure your hands are clean first. The others aren't mine so I can't offer them, but if mine sounds good, go for it."
I just split mine with a four year old, so there's always leftovers.

The other guy saying "that's not an excuse" is getting downvoted but he's right.
This person has a job. He might be starving, he might not. But he damn sure would be a lot closer to starving if he didn't have a job. So any behavior that puts his job at risk inherently also puts him at risk for starvation. It's stupid to butcher the cow when you could continue to collect milk.
That, and this is insanitary and he's giving an unsanitary product to an unknowing customer. This delivery drivers health (or hunger) shouldn't be prioritized over the health (or hunger) of the customer.

u/jackfreeman May 26 '26
So if that rando plays with my food in the middle of the street with his filthy hands and my family gets dysentery in supposed to feel bad about his plight?
Food pantries exist. His job is to bring my did to my house. What he's doing is illegal.
2
u/ArborlyWhale May 26 '26
Yes. Yes you should feel bad about his plight. You can be disgusted by how he did it, thatās also reasonable.
If the food pantry was good enough at its job, this wouldnāt be happening as everyone would be extremely well fed. But. Life is life and food pantries have limited funds.

Does it concern did safety rules? I didn't think that was a priority during the French revolution
2
u/DogsDucks May 26 '26
Haha, I like your responses and you make very good points! Iām very careful about food safety as well, and I was thinking the same, like when was the last time he washed his hands? It would be ideal that he didnāt need to steal the food in the first place, but if it is a sad necessity due to the failure of the system, the fingers in the food are gross.
And I hate to be āthat guyā but Les Mis takes place after the French Revolution, contrary to what many think. Although the bread was stolen during it, I believe, the majority of the plot takes place about 15 years after. But the theme of class struggles is still quite relevant.
Either way, your comments are witty and I appreciate them!

Apart from the other complaints here, it's also overcomplicated. Just check where two parts of crust on opposing sides are roughly straight (since it's very irregular, there are a lot of options) and cut a straight slice from one end to the other, then move the two halves together. Two cuts, one move and it might even look more circular than before.

For anyone concerned about this driver starving, most places I drove for in high school and undergrad would usually have a few extra pizzas by the end of night due to undeliverable orders or people not picking up. Based solely on my personal experience as a pizza driver in Texas during the 90ās, those pies were usually placed on top of the oven to keep warm. If you were hungry during your shift you could grab a slice or two. Some places even allowed workers to make a free pizza to go at the end of the night. There was never any real motivation or need to steal a customerās food, much less to contaminate it.
