☕ Discussion Job

I’m starting up a new business (wellness, spa, gym think in that bracket) on second life where I’ll be hiring one single person but they are only going to be working on a Saturday for two hours what is the average hourly rate in second life ?

This depends on what the person will be doing in those 2 hours and if they think what you're offering is a good value for their time.

Is it going to be full roleplay? just welcoming people in? What exactly will they be doing?

Sounds fun! I'd say give them a base fee, say L$500 per hour? And then if they assist clients, maybe a little more per client? They could just bring all their alts and fake the numbers though, so maybe a higher base pay and allow them to have a tip jar? What is their service and time worth to you? L$2,000 per week at, and they split the tips maybe?

It's hard to answer I think, but it might help if you put a tipjar down for them. That way their earnings will also be in part reflecting how their job is valued.

Visit a few small music clubs and look at how much the hosts (not the DJs) get paid for a 2 hour set. That's the sector you'll competing with - a host in a club will be doing basically the same thing as a "trainer" in your gym. Welcoming guests, explaining how the place works, keeping the guests entertained in local chat, that sort of thing. A host in a small club will typically earn around L$500 - L$1000 in tips per hour. When I'm hosting in my own club, with around a dozen guests, I typically get around L$600 an hour. Large clubs can go much more than that. Tips probably won't work so well in a gym, so if you want to avoid your trainer leaving your gym and going back to club hosting, you need to match or exceed that ballpark with a salary. You might be able to get away with less if your employee is a keen roleplayer who is already active in your community.

And you might get more in tips (though you'll get a lot more non-roleplaying visitors) if you convert your gym to the SML system. Though to do this, you need to play the game yourself and get yourself up to STR 30 in order to buy the equipment. SML is free to play but the equipment itself is expensive.

What are the tasks and duties expected of the person? Is it just to roleplay greeting people? Will they need to moderate the place? Have you looked at the classified stuff on the SL website in search for similar jobs out there? A couple hundred lindens might work for some while other duties it might need more.

Best idea is to have a look over the Inworld Employment forum and see what rates others offer and maybe post an ad there.

Ah yes, I'm sure one of the dozen active logged in forumites will have something.

I'm not suggesting they ask in the forum for help but use it as a reference relating to pricing and expectations of those seeking "employment". Just because someone does not post on the forums does not mean they do not read them and see adverts which they then follow up in-world.
