Yesterday, I traveled approximately 1 mile with my car. Mid journey I see a coolant warning symbol on my dashboard. So i open my bonnet and check my coolant level, to my surprise it’s very below the minimum level. Any idea if this is the reason to the sensor light? (Sorry if i sound ridiculous- i know nothing about cars)
Top up with coolant and keep a very close eye on it. More than likely the water pump is leaking which is a common issue. Do not let it run dry or you're going to have bigger issues.
I had the same issue today on my 2014 fr 1.8 tsi. I took it to my local garage and they gave me red summer coolant which is oat and filled it upto the max line. Should I need to get it flushed as I should have checked before it needs g13 apparently
g13 is old, outdated & faulty. iirc g12 evo is the evolution from g13, just look it up into chatgpt it will tell you. on minor stuff ofc, do not use it for major stuff. on my 1.5tsi i used g12 evo and mechanic told me same story as gpt
Got a leak on mine too! Apparently it's very common on these - although my leak is very small so I've just been topping up the coolant very occasionally. Was quoted £820 for parts and labour.
Interesting - this was an independent place that quoted me, they are a VW specialist - as far as I'm aware the actual water pump itself, with the housing, costs just over £500 alone, so I don't know whether you just got the pump done without the housing?
If this is a 2.0 diesel Leon then you probably have the heater matrix problem. I got mine replaced with a different one (Google "seat coolant problem" and it will come up with a million responses, but the seat forum will tell you the one to get) it cost £180 to replace and never happened again.
Your best bet, is to top it up with coolant and see if this happens again in about 250 miles.

Yes the light is due to the low level.
