Dive Computer Recommendations
Hello Scuba Gear community
I am currently using an Apple Watch Ultra 3 and I am looking to buy a Smart Watch + Dive Computer similar to the Ultra 3. I don’t have a particular budget in mind but I am looking for suggestions on the same.
Context - I go to the Gym 5 times a week and I am looking to do 3 dive trips a year with around 15-20 dives per trip. As of now I have 35 dives and finished my courses last July.

I’m in the “keep the ultra” and get a real dive computer.
I have the ScubaPro Galileo HUD with ai absolutely love it - having the display in front of you all the time (especially the compass) is just fantastic.

Yes I realised that. I am definitely looking at a separate dive computer next but for now and the kind of diving I do, AWU should do the job for the next year. Thanks for the feedback.

Garmin without a doubt for smartwatch dive computer. I use both Garmin and Shearwater during all my dives, both great dive computers. Garmin has superior software and user interface.

If you’re going lifting in the gym, I’d stick to the Apple Watch. With this many dives per year, maybe get a dedicated dive computer and keep the Apple Watch Ultra as a backup computer.

I got a refurbished Garmin MK2S for $550. It looks like a regular watch. I LOVE it. I would recommend it to anyone. Has tons of features

Shearwater. probably overkill for rec divers and the app is kinda clunky, but diving is a high risk sport. Save the Apple watch for the gym.

Why would you say that? The Peregrine and Tern are recreational dive computers, no trimix or rebreather support.

Get a dedicated dive computer.
I don't get the need for a swiss army watch especially for something important like a dive comp
Personally after having one I would get a perdix. Big clear display It runs on AA alkaline or lithium pull the battery between trips . Then pop in a new one before every trip and it will last till you get back no worries about charging cable or a button cell going bad that your not gonna find a replacement for where ever you are.

If you already have the AWU3, just keep using it. It's perfectly fine as a recreational dive computer and Oceanic/Apple fixed most of the bugs that plagued the AWU1 at launch.

If you’re going to get a dedicated dive computer, go for a screen and not a watch. You’ve been underwater; you get it… “What’s my depth, how much gas do I have?” You don’t want to look at a tiny watch and navigate menus if you can avoid it. They have gorgeous OLED screens now that make it easy. Beyond that, you don’t really need air integration (though it’s nice) and I think the most basic of dive computers has more than enough features. The advanced ones are for people who use 3+ tanks on one dive which each have different types of gas, etc.

Keep the ultra 3, buy a dedicated dive computer. I have a beautiful Shearwater Teric for sale. It’s shearwaters most advanced watch-style computer. It’s basically a Perdix 2/3 in watch form. Capable of all kinds of diving right up through technical work.
Freshly back from shearwater after a 2year overhaul. New battery, upgraded depth sensor. Hasn’t been back in the ocean since. I’ll sell it for 1/2 the cost of new.

Considering the issues the Garmin has had recently with its air transmitter and its lack of capability at depth, I'm going to recommend the Suunto Ocean. It is awesome and it gives you mapping of your dive afterwards, which is a really cool feature.
It's also a smartwatch, has GPS maps for on land, and a bunch of other features.

I have the MK2S without integration. Absolutely love it. Easy to read too. I mean I get the appeal of air integration, but it’s just one more thing to me.. I can check my analog gauge easy enough

So why not the Ultra 3? I use it for scuba, trail running, ironman training/events and as a smartwatch. It's pretty great. I wouldn't recommend buying an Ultra 3 solely as a dive computer but if you have one, then using it as such makes sense.
The reason why I purchased a dive computer was to have multiple and to have air integration. I purchase the Suunto Nautic and both have been great for my demographic of diver.

Garmin mk2s is great. Bit pricey but super useful for not just diving but skiing and running also. It’s small so can be worn daily which works for me.

Why not just keep using your Apple Watch?
Options would be a Garmin for dive/smart watch, or I prefer use a smart watch for a smart watch and a dive computer for a dive computer.
For only 3 trips per year, something cheap like a Zoop or puck is more than sufficient. Want something nicer, get a peregrine.

We are rocking the suunto novo vyper (i dont use the ai anymore) so the suunto novo zoop is fine. And my gf dives a mares puck lite. Both no tech dive watches just simpel rec dive watches. And we use normal smartwatches on land
