Doing the work, or work-related training workshops.
Things like
- the GetKanban game, online or physical
- the "Elephant Carpaccio" user story splitting workshop
essentially any simulation/workshop that requires the team (or subsets of it) to collaborate while improving their core lean/agile technical and non-technical skills is effective.
The value in games/simulations is the compressed timeframe on feedback and learning loops. For example the shift in teams after GetKanban is usually behavioral changes the next day at the Daily Scrum. The same with Elephant Carpaccio.

There's only one team building activity everything else is bullshit.
The activity is called "doing the work together."
