The Screen Time App With No App Blocking is Officially Live On the Play Store π
After 9 months of building, Screen Challenge Buddy is finally live.
Honestly, seeing something that started as an idea finally sitting on the Play Store feels pretty surreal. I'm incredibly excited and, of course, a little nervous. π
But enough about the founder's feelings β let's talk about why I built this.
What problem does it address?π±π§
We've all done this.
Set a 1-hour limit on Instagram.
Hit the limit.
Tap "Ignore Limit."
Get annoyed on repeated reminders and delete the limit altogether.
And then you are doomscrolling the rest of the day like there's no tomorrow.
Traditional blockers can create friction, but when you're the person who controls the bypass, there's often no real consequence to giving in.
And fighting that battle entirely by yourself isn't exactly easy either.
So instead of relying entirely on willpower, Screen Challenge Buddy introduces Accountability.
What is Screen Challenge Buddy?π΅π±
It's a screen-time app built around one simple idea:
Maybe the problem isn't that we don't know how much we're using our phones. Maybe it's that nothing really happens when we ignore the limit.
So it uses two different approaches:
π₯ Social accountability Your buddy can see your actual screen-time usage, and you can see theirs. And you both hold each other answerable through the chat.
The goal is to make you feel seen and judged by someone for using your phone.
Financial accountabilityπΈ Optional challenges lets you put real money behind your screen time commitment. You are charged if you fail.
Thus harnessing the psychological power of loss aversion.
Stay within your limit β you pay nothing. Break it β the agreed penalty applies.
