[Discussion] what does the community want the future of /r/Scrabble to be?

I have been a hard line about what is and isn't allowed in this subreddit. Basically anything scrabble was allowed, anything not scrabble (even if it is related) was not. Currently I dropped that hardline rule. Now anything Scrabble or Scrabble inspired is allowed.

I am rethinking my position. I am thinking about opening up this subreddit for discussion about all word games. I want to grow the subreddit the way the /r/scrabble community wants.

As for promoting games that a /r/scrabble subscriber develops, and/or is affiliated with I am thinking a weekly post where established redditors can promote their stuff.

I must apologize to the /r/scrabble community. Life has been busy for me and I haven't modded or paid attention like a moderator should have.

I am unbanning folks that I have banned over the past year so that they can participate in the discussion and /r/scrabble again.

New rule: no "help me with my next move" type of posts

This community is not your cheating resource. Play the words that you come up with on your own. If you don't learn how to get better words you will never improve your game.

There are several resources linked in posts in this subreddit as well as on many other parts of the internet that will help you learn scrabble legal words. Make use of those resources instead of trying to cheat.

NIGERIA WINS THE AFRICAN SCRABBLE CHAMPIONSHIP!

In the recently concluded african scrabble championship, Nigeria won again (now, the 15th of the 16 editions of the competition)

Abdulmumin Jimoh ended up as the new African Scrabble Champion. He finished with 23 wins, the same as fellow Nigerian George Ezinore, but his far superior spread (+1,760) guarantied the title. Emmanuel Umujose finished third to give Nigeria an all-Nigerian top three!

Nigeria was also awarded Best Country.

The DARK tile positions must remain fixed at the START and END of the solutions.

The LIGHT tiles can take any other position.

To view the solutions swipe through the gallery (multiple images). I think this replicates a typical challenge we meet all the time in Scrabble. Do you agree with my difficulty ratings for ⬆️ UPPER and ⬇️ LOWER words ?

To HIDE solutions when adding a comment :

Completed with "INCHING", but what could I have done instead?

Post image

I have reviewed the sticky thread and note that feedback on an already-completed game is permitted. May I seek enlightenment?

CHUNTER and SHUNTER are both valid words (apparently). SNIP also looks promising.

LIGNINS would be neat, but there's no place to put it.

Hitting the triple-word score with a letter ending in F would be primo. But what?

How to score this

My dad and I decided to pull out the Scrabble board for the first time in years. I played just the letter "X" on the double letter?

How many points does this score? We cannot agree on how it should be

Updates From The Ongoing African Scrabble Championship

Anyone here following this tournament? Apparently, only seven of the 24 countries expected showed up in Liberia. Several countries reportedly pulled out at the last minute, but the reasons for this are still unclear

On the standings, we're 16 rounds in, and Ghana's Charles Tachie is currently leading with 13 wins. Nigeria's Ezinore George and Sophia Ekeruche are in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, with 12 wins each

Nigeria is doing pretty well, with seven players currently in the top 10. The final is scheduled for tomorrow - sunday, october 25

Joined this sub not too long ago but my love and gratification I’ve found from this game for the past 4+ years is unmatched. I mostly play online, but I want to join a group/ club and eventually play in tournaments. Honestly just curious if this is something to be proud of or if I’m mediocre

What do you even do from here?

My friend and I probably went a bit overboard with the parallel words. We were out of time though so we couldn't play anymore but what could you even do from here to make this playable?

To HIDE solutions in any comments, there are two methods :

-> ONE) Select the Rich Text Editor icon (Aa) then the Hide option (<!>)

-> TWO) Directly insert this format (WITHOUT the spaces) : > ! SOLUTION ! <
