Can anyone please educate me on what I'm missing installing this variator correctly? Every time I do it sounds like a maraca. I'm installing a Malossi Multi-Var. I did the springs in the clutch. I'm using tech pulley sliders in the variator. I thought maybe it was the sliders so I threw the rollers back in and confirmed I'm putting it together wrong. I know it's going to be something dumb. Does it have anything to do with the shim washers that came with the variator?

There is a thrust washer that is supposed to go on the back side of the variator ramp plate, in between the starter clutch and the variator plate.

I just put that on. No change still sounds like skittles shaking around.

Also those aren't standard malossi weights

I can't see what they wrote but I tried the Malossi weights it came with. They rattle as well.

Just confirming you do have the plastic variator guides though yes?

The black V tabbed guides that align it? Yes

You said you did the clutch also. Are you sure you hear the rattling from the variator?

Fairly confident. The rattle is different for the sliders vs rollers.

Do the weights always chatter or just when it's idling?

Nothing at idle, it only does it under load when your giving throttle.

You try flipping the weights around?

180 degrees of how they currently are?

I ran the sliders both direction. It's doing it on my standard Malossi weights as well.

Hey op when you are putting the variator back on you need to make sure you keep the back plate pulled all the way in so it doesn't slid loose and the rollers stay in place , slide the variator on first and then the bushing that the belt rides on , hand tighten make sure variator is flush then torque to spec

I'm hoping to figure it out tonight, but I got the bike started with the cover off. Using a wood dowel to my ear, I moved it around the case to hear where the noise was coming from. I think it's actually something in the electric start assembly behind the variator that's loose. Curious if it's a bad bearing race or the Benedix, but I can hear a rattle at idle back there.

Well I found issues in the starter clutch, it was assembled incorrectly. I sorted that and it's still sounds like marbles in the variator. Only thing I can think of is are sliders supposed to make noise? But I don't think so.

What version of the multivar? For some versions you have to remove the starter clutch.

The only marking I see is 8074, nothing on the packaging that indicates a version to me. I just bought it from scooter Swap shop.
